Job Summary/CompanySparks Group has partnered with a local government organization seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator to support a dynamic public works and infrastructure department. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive workplace safety programs while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in occupational safety, risk management, employee training, and accident prevention within construction, public works, transportation, utilities, or other industrial environments.


Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain department-wide safety policies, procedures, and health programs to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a culture of safety.
  • Conduct workplace hazard assessments, ergonomic evaluations, job site inspections, safety audits, and risk analyses across multiple facilities and work environments.
  • Research OSHA and other regulatory requirements, ensuring departmental practices remain compliant with evolving safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, safety records, employee training documentation, inspection reports, and other compliance-related records within web-based safety management systems.
  • Coordinate employee safety training, new hire safety orientation, emergency preparedness exercises, industrial hygiene testing, and specialized safety programs.
  • Partner with supervisors and department leadership to develop safe work practices and provide guidance on regulatory compliance and accident prevention.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for workers' compensation, return-to-work coordination, commercial driver's license (CDL) compliance, drug and alcohol testing programs, and related safety initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, audit findings, and recommendations while monitoring corrective actions through completion.
  • Analyze injury and incident trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement proactive safety initiatives.
  • Participate in employee safety committees and collaborate with management to improve workplace safety awareness and engagement.

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in occupational safety, industrial safety, environmental health and safety (EHS), loss prevention, risk management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety standards, accident investigation techniques, and hazard mitigation practices.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, ergonomic assessments, and employee safety training.
  • Familiarity with workers' compensation, return-to-work programs, and safety compliance reporting.
  • Experience maintaining safety records and utilizing electronic safety management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, deliver presentations, and collaborate with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience within public works, construction, utilities, transportation, municipal government, manufacturing, or industrial environments is highly preferred.
