Overview:

The Safety Coordinator will focus on creating and enforcing a culture of health and safety for employees, subcontractors, and the general public on project sites. This person must be a strong, safety-oriented individual who will collaborate with the Operations team to ensure a work environment that is focused on accident prevention and risk mitigation/management. The Safety Coordinator will also provide some training and direction to on-site staff on safety items and plans.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead and live Brinkmann’s culture of safety first
  • Monitor and discuss safety programs and efforts with on-site subcontractors and Brinkmann employees; ensuring safety is part of our culture and that all new hires have proper safety documents and information
  • Stop at once any violation or unsafe acts or practices
  • Oversee issuance of new hire safety documents and lead the immersion of new employees and subcontractors into the Brinkmann safety culture
  • Participate in pre-mortem and preconstruction meetings such as tower crane assembly and disassembly, tilt up operations, precast erection, zero lot line projects, shoring, excavations 15' or 
    greater, deeper utilities, masonry, high risk scaffolding, ROW operations, blasting, steel erection, SWPPP, Panelized systems, high risk jobsites, power energization, demolition, roofing, and setting rooftop equipment
  • Coordinate with project supervision to ensure personal protective equipment/safety materials and first aid supplies are available and utilized, and all safety documents are posted on-site
  • Verify tools and equipment to ensure good quality
  • Record and forward copies of all safety related meetings, programs, safety pre-plans, inspections, correspondence, directives, citations, etc. to the Safety Manager and Safety Director for tracking
  • Conduct safety/health inspections as required
  • Keep current all required safety documents and literature
  • Oversee protection of the public by minimizing construction hazards
  • Monitor maintenance of adequate first aid supplies
  • Maintain project OSHA 300 log of injuries/illnesses and coordinating corrective measures
  • Implement Brinkmann safety policies, procedures, and programs
  • Coordinate compliance with Brinkmann’s Storm Water Pollution and Prevention Plans
  • May be asked to serve as a mentor to new hires during onboarding
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health and safety with a minimum of 3 years' construction safety management experience or board-certified safety credential such as CSP or CHST with a minimum of five years' construction safety management experience. 
  • Ability to work with all construction groups: management, owners, trades, and subcontractors
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a motivated and task driven individual
  • Ability to understand and solve complex challenges to present alternative solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Working Conditions:

  • The Safety Coordinator’s work is primarily performed indoors out of a main office or field office at the construction site; occasionally outdoors in various weather conditions with some exposure to health or safety hazards, including noise level may range from moderate to loud.
  • Light physical effort is required, including the handling of objects up to 20 pounds and some standing, walking, sitting, talking and/or hearing.
  • Environment will be demanding and fast paced; number of hours typically worked in a workweek may exceed 40 hours per week and often “on call” 24 hours a day.
  • Position requires frequent, high-level of autonomy as it relates to decision-making that impacts company results.
