A Safety Technician supports an organization's health and safety program by conducting inspections, identifying hazards, assisting with incident prevention, and helping ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and internal policies. The role is typically hands-on, field-based, and focused on monitoring day-to-day safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

Workplace Inspections & Hazard Identification

  • Perform routine safety inspections of work areas, equipment, tools, and job sites.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors; document findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Verify that safety guards, emergency exits, signage, and warning systems are in place and functional.
  • Support job safety analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments.

Compliance Support

  • Assist with maintaining compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., OSHA and local/state requirements).
  • Help track safety permits, certifications, and required postings.
  • Maintain safety documentation such as inspection logs, training records, SDS (Safety Data Sheets), and audit results.

Incident Reporting & Investigation

  • Respond to incidents and near-misses, ensuring proper reporting procedures are followed.
  • Assist with investigations, including evidence gathering, witness statements, and root cause analysis support.
  • Track corrective and preventive actions to closure.

Training & Safety Communication

  • Support safety orientations for new hires and contractors.
  • Assist in delivering toolbox talks and refresher training.
  • Promote safe work practices through coaching and communication in the field.
  • Help develop or update safety signage, bulletins, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

PPE & Safety Equipment Management

  • Monitor and enforce appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with PPE selection, issuance, and inventory tracking.
  • Inspect and help maintain emergency equipment (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, spill kits).

Program Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in safety audits and safety committee meetings.
  • Help compile safety metrics (e.g., incident rates, inspection trends).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk and improve safety culture.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (associate degree or technical training is a plus).
  • 1-3 years of experience in workplace safety, manufacturing, construction, warehousing, or a related environment (varies by employer).
  • Familiarity with safety principles, inspections, and incident reporting.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety policies, SDS, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong observation and attention to detail
  • Clear communication and ability to coach others respectfully
  • Basic report writing and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently in the field
  • Problem-solving and corrective action follow-up

Competitive Compensation

  • Pay Range: $x/hr to $y/hr
  • Participation in Annual Incentive Program
