Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing, administering, and monitoring safety programs to minimize occupational hazards and ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations within construction, telecom, and low-voltage environments. This role supports a culture of safety through site inspections, incident investigations, training initiatives, hazard identification, and collaboration with field operations teams. The Safety Coordinator proactively evaluates risks, develops corrective actions, and promotes safe work practices across all job sites.
Job Responsibilities
Identify and evaluate workplace conditions that may result in accidents, injuries, property damage, or financial loss.
Assess potential risks and determine the severity of possible injuries and losses associated with workplace hazards.
Develop and implement accident prevention and loss control programs that align with organizational safety objectives.
Coordinate safety initiatives to ensure consistent implementation of safety policies and procedures across all operations.
Compile, analyze, and interpret safety data related to incidents, injuries, illnesses, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
Recommend process improvements and safety measures to reduce employee exposure to workplace hazards.
Conduct routine inspections of job sites, facilities, tools, equipment, and work practices to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and occupational illnesses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Review project plans, specifications, and work procedures to ensure safety requirements are met.
Prepare and communicate reports related to accident investigations, safety audits, inspections, and compliance activities.
Evaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions taken to address safety and health violations.
Maintain current knowledge of safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
Conduct and facilitate safety training programs for supervisors, foremen, and field personnel.
Monitor and administer compliance with required safety training programs.
Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other safety-related discussions to reinforce safe work practices and communicate lessons learned.
Mentor employees on safety expectations and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
Job Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a construction safety role.
Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, hazard recognition, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety regulations.
OSHA 500 or OSHA 510 certification required.
BCSP certification, or active pursuit of a BCSP credential, preferred.
Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze safety data and develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
Proficiency in conducting investigations, audits, inspections, and safety training programs.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment.
Ability to stand and walk active job sites for extended periods throughout the workday.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Additional safety-related education or training is preferred.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a construction safety position.
Experience supporting field operations in construction, telecom, utility, or similar industries preferred.
