Description
This class oversees and coordinates workplace safety, accident prevention, and employee health programs for Public Works & Utilities. The incumbent may: provide department professional journey-level work in ensuring employees follow Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) standards as well as, regulations for handling hazardous waste materials; provide organization of general liability issues and act as a liaison for workmans compensation claims; and conduct safety trainings and education on various occupational safety and health topics.

In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
