About this Role:

The Safety Coordinator position offers the opportunity to be part of a team that supports underground facility construction, locating, design, and surveying activities with the purpose of Safety and Quality Assurance / Quality Control. The Field Safety Auditor, in coordination with various projects management teams, seeks to continually monitor and improve safety, professionalism and the company’s philosophy / brand by performing tasks associated with tracking, inventorying, inspecting and maintaining safety equipment and performing visual on-site audits of field workers and field activities for the purpose of meeting the Company, State, and Federal processes, procedures, rules and regulations for safe work practices in any area where field activities are being performed. Location: Ontario

What You'll Do:
  • Be able to exemplify the HBK model of safe work practices in the workplace way while identifying, correcting and communicating issues. 
  • Review and understand all project specific safety requirements, customer safety requirements and verifies / ensures compliance at project sites. 
  • Review and understand all manufacturer and regulatory inspection and maintenance requirements as appropriate for safety equipment verifies / ensures compliance.  
  • Perform and document Safety Audits on HBK field personnel under the HBK Safety Manager’s direction which include observation of safe working practices, job site working conditions and office working conditions.   
  • Perform and document safety equipment inspections and calibrations as required at HBK Safety Manager’s direction to include field safety equipment, tools, emergency equipment, and office safety equipment.  
  • Exercise sound judgment in weighing abnormal field conditions as they relate to proper work habits and as they relate to the inspection, calibration and use of safety equipment meant for various conditions. 
  • Assess and determine appropriate levels of Personal Protective Equipment for each geographic location; order and distribute said equipment as necessary. 
  • Assess and determine appropriate levels of Safety equipment for each geographic location in the Chicago area; order and distribute said equipment as necessary. 
  • Create and or maintain proper inventory tracking, issuing, receiving and storage methods as appropriate. 
  • Make and / or coordinate any needed repairs or replacements with appropriate service facilities or providers as needed.  
  • Use various electronic data capture tools for inspections, collecting data and reporting. 
  • Use computer programs for spreadsheet creation / management, virtual meetings, electronic filing, and email tasks. 
  • Create and maintain proper communications with appropriate staff, including individual program management as well as HBK Safety Manager. 
  • Communicate all safety issues via the provided data management system as well as opening all appropriate lines of communication to sufficiently alert all involved parties to severe safety infractions, applied corrections and continually maintain and document all related and valuable data of interest. 
  • Attend weekly meetings with all personnel on projects, both in person and via virtual settings. 
  • Communicate with customer safety representatives. 
  • Assist in completing accident and incident investigations. 
  • Schedule routes appropriately as to limit travel time. 
  • Perform other related duties as may be deemed necessary or effective as directed by the HBK Safety Manager or Program Manager on an on-call basis.

What You'll Bring:
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices. 
  • Familiarity with OSHA, State, local and company safety directives and work to continually expand that knowledge. 
  • Experience using basic communication and tech devices. 
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact with the public, contractor representatives, and customers. 
  • Strong organizational skills to be able to handle many varied tasks at once in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Current OSHA 30 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of start of employment.  
    • Graduation from high school or GED; 2-year or 4-year degree a plus. 
    • 2 years minimum utility engineering or construction field experience. 
    • 2 years minimum experience working with safety equipment, inventory systems. 
    • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience or working knowledge of safe utility locating procedures and equipment a plus. 
  • Experience or working knowledge of safe land surveying procedures and equipment a plus. 

 

Physical requirements: 

  • Physically capable of moving about on construction work sites, public streets, and parkway. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, sit, or drive for extended periods. 
  • Capable of lifting up to 50lbs.

Compensation Range: The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $65,000.00/Yr. - USD $85,000.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications. Equal Opportunity Employer:
