The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and executing all safety initiatives, compliance programs, risk mitigation efforts, and training activities for the Cleveland-based operating companies of Extera Building Solutions, including Warren Roofing and Cleveland Building Restoration (CBR). This role serves as a strategic partner to field leadership, operations, HR, and executive management to foster a proactive, people-first safety culture across all construction operations.
The Safety Manager will oversee safety compliance for employees operating in active commercial construction environments including roofing, masonry restoration, glazing, service, and sheet metal operations. This individual will drive accountability, consistency, training, incident reduction, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all jobsites and facilities.
This role requires a highly visible field presence, strong leadership skills, and the ability to influence both office and field personnel while balancing operational realities with regulatory and company safety standards.
• Lead and manage all company safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives across Cleveland operations.
• Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve company-wide safety standards aligned with OSHA, state regulations, union requirements, and industry best practices.
• Conduct routine and unannounced jobsite safety inspections and audits.
• Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and operational risks and ensure timely corrective action.
• Stop unsafe work when necessary to protect employees, subcontractors, clients, and the public.
• Assist operations teams with pre-job planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and site-specific safety plans.
• Lead all safety onboarding and orientation programs for new hires.
• Coordinate and facilitate OSHA, fall protection, silica awareness, scaffold, aerial lift, forklift, CPR/First Aid/AED, and other required training programs.
• Track employee certifications, expirations, and compliance requirements.
• Lead incident investigations involving injuries, near misses, vehicle incidents, and property damage.
• Conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
• Manage workers’ compensation administration in partnership with HR, insurance carriers, TPAs, and MCOs.
• Analyze injury trends, EMR impacts, and risk exposure data.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, contractor prequalification requirements, and client-specific safety standards.
• Coordinate safety documentation required for ISNetworld, Avetta, Highwire, and similar platforms.
• Collaborate closely with HR, field leadership, project managers, superintendents, and executive leadership.
• Support acquisition integration efforts and safety standardization initiatives.
• Assist with emergency response planning and crisis management procedures.
• Promote a strong culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
• Minimum 5+ years of construction safety experience required.
• Experience in commercial roofing, masonry restoration, glazing, sheet metal, or specialty contracting strongly preferred.
• Experience in union construction environments preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926).
• Experience conducting incident investigations and managing workers’ compensation claims.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and jobsites simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software platforms.
• OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer Certification
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
• CPR / First Aid / AED Instructor Certification
• CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician)
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred
• STSC (Safety Trained Supervisor Construction) preferred

This role requires regular travel between jobsites, offices, warehouses, and customer locations. The Safety Manager must be comfortable working in active construction environments including exposure to heights, outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and physically demanding jobsite conditions.
