    Description

    Position summary:

    Plan, implement, and coordinate safety programs, requiring application of engineering principles and technology, to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions.

     

    Tasks:

    · Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.

    · Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.

    · Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.

    · Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.

    · Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.

    · Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy.

    · Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively.

    · Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

    · Writing - Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

    · Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at

    inappropriate times.

    · Persuasion - Persuading others to change their minds or behavior.

    · Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

     

    Attributes:

    · Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

    · Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

    · Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

    · Written Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.

    · Deductive Reasoning - The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

    · Inductive Reasoning - The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules

    or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

     

    Experience and Education:

    Bachelor's Degree; Over 2 years, up to and including 4 years
