Job Summary:

The Safety Manager oversees the implementation of safety policies and procedures and provides leadership and guidance into all aspects of the Company’s Safety Program. As a subject matter expert, advises leadership and operations on best work practices and compliance. Key responsibilities include: developing and administering project-specific safety plans, visiting field job sites to conduct inspections, and providing ongoing safety training to company employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the implementation of safety policies and procedures and provides leadership and guidance into all aspects of the Company’s Safety Program.
  • Advise Executive Leadership and the Operations team on industry best work practices and share information about new products and processes that have proven to reduce risk on injury.
  • Implement safety controls associated with electrical work hazards, including field review/validation, process development of electrical work hazardous guidelines and in field safety observations
  • Review safety lock-out/tag-out procedure verification and personal protective equipment for associated electrical work scopes to help classify/prevent hazards.
  • Lead or assist with conducting general safety audits and near miss, incident, and accident investigations as needed.
  • Report, track and manage injury/incident reporting/investigation/claim management.
  • Track/report company labor hours/incident rates (receive data from payroll and process data for reporting to OSHA, CEO, CFO, department heads, prequalification for construction bidding)
  • Manage Return to work/modified duty claims (Document/process/coordinate return to work and modified duty work, as well as manage claim support for such cases
  • Enforce safe work practices that exceed OSHA minimum standards, enforce company rules and policies, and enforce site-specific safety requirements. Partner with Human Resources to enforce company disciplinary policy.
  • Visit company jobsites, conduct workplace inspections.
  • Partner with operations to ensure that employees are trained with the right tools and equipment and understand the task and hazards that are involved are provided with the right instruction to do the work safely and effectively.
  • Follow EMCOR’s established and required methods for all means of reporting accidents and incidents and investigate all workplace injuries and vehicle Incidents.
  • Maintain the company’s electrical safety procedures to maintain compliance with regulations.
  • Revise and update safety policies/procedures for safety materials/documentation (i.e. safety manual, logs, procedures for tools/equipment, etc.) in accordance with regulatory compliance requirements. Develop/approve project specific changes.
  • Create training and roll out programs for new policies/procedures.
  • Conduct safety training:
    • New employee orientation
    • Unique Project Obligations
    • Hazard Specific – Company specific training, other identified non-routine training (e.g. Confined Space, Fall Protection, Silica, etc.)
  • Attend jobsite coordination meetings and discuss safety issues as necessary
  • Assist with Pre-job assessments as needed for major electrical projects
  • Communicate with customers regarding site specific safety requirements
    • Participate in customer site meetings and safety walks
    • Complete prequalification documentation (Avetta, IS Net, etc)
  • Enter information as required by EMCOR’s internal reporting system (Workplace Injuries, NOV entries, Track training efforts, Enter Monthly labor-hours).
  • Manage ACTS system (weekly employee counts, monthly labor hours, reporting and tracking of injuries/near misses/ environmental releases/ property damage/vehicle incidents/regulatory agency visits/subcontractor incident).
  • Coordinate OSHA, EPA and MSHA regulatory compliance efforts. Participate in site inspections, hearings, and implementation of required corrective actions.
  • Conduct/ Coordinate Industrial Hygiene efforts.
  • Support Fleet Management as required (i.e. Tracking Vehicle Inspections, Review Driver Qualifications, Close out poor driving notifications).
  • Support Business Continuity efforts as assigned.

Qualifications:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • 7-10 years of experience in a professional safety role; proven successful experience as a safety manager, preferably in the Construction Industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in safety management or relevant field is preferred.
  • OSHA 500 certifications, CPR, first aide, certification in fall protection preferred.
  • Experience writing Health and Safety Plans (HASP’s) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s).
  • Certified Safety Professionals credentials desired CSP, SMS, ASP, CHST.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, internal reporting software.
  • Independent self-starter with experience operating independently with little day-to-day supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing needs across a decentralized organization.
  • Strong interpersonal, management, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Travel to project field sites required.
