Position Overview

A growing civil construction and earthwork organization is seeking a Safety Manager (SSHO) to lead safety operations across active projects while building and strengthening the company’s overall safety infrastructure.

This is not just a compliance role — this is a leadership opportunity for someone who wants to step into a long-term management position and help shape the future of safety within the organization.

The ideal candidate will be highly visible in the field while also taking ownership of developing systems, improving processes, training teams, tracking performance, and driving accountability company-wide.

This role is best suited for someone who can lead crews in the field, influence operations, and build a scalable safety program that supports continued company growth.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Leadership

  • Build, implement, and continuously improve company-wide safety programs and initiatives
  • Develop standardized policies, procedures, reporting systems, and safety workflows
  • Create scalable processes that improve consistency across all projects
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen safety culture and operational accountability

Field Leadership & Oversight

  • Maintain a strong field presence across active construction and earthwork projects
  • Work directly with superintendents, foremen, operators, and crews to enforce safe work practices
  • Identify jobsite hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented immediately
  • Lead by example and establish credibility through hands-on involvement in field operations

Training & Development

  • Develop and conduct safety orientations, ongoing training programs, toolbox talks, and leadership coaching
  • Train field leadership on safety expectations, incident prevention, and compliance procedures
  • Mentor and support field teams to improve overall safety awareness and accountability
  • Help create a proactive safety culture focused on education and continuous improvement

Reporting, Compliance & Incident Management

  • Track, analyze, and report safety metrics, trends, incidents, and corrective actions
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Oversee OSHA compliance, audits, inspections, and documentation
  • Ensure all reporting and safety documentation remains organized, accurate, and audit-ready

Process Improvement & Operational Support

  • Identify opportunities to improve safety systems, communication, and field execution
  • Partner with operations teams during project planning to proactively reduce risk
  • Ensure safety is fully integrated into day-to-day operations and project execution
  • Support long-term operational growth through improved structure and accountability

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of construction safety experience with field leadership responsibility
  • Proven experience creating, implementing, and managing safety programs and processes
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
  • Experience within civil construction, earthwork, underground utilities, or heavy equipment environments
  • Ability to lead both strategically and operationally in fast-paced field environments
  • Strong communication, leadership, and training abilities

Required Certifications

  • CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician)
  • OSHA 510

Preferred

  • Experience overseeing safety across multiple active projects
  • Strong background in incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • First Aid / CPR Certification
  • ASP or CSP Certification preferred
