Major/Essential Functions
- Provide knowledgeable leadership in on-campus waste handling and reduction.
- Maintain documentation for regulatory compliance with TCEQ and EPA requirements.
- Assist in the proper collection, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste on all of the University's campuses, including Reese Center and the School of Veterinary Medicine.
- Serve as a point of contact for the University Spill Contingency Plan.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the university's environmental permits and support their regulatory compliance.
- Conduct and record the weekly inspections of both hazardous waste container storage areas, including maintaining cleanliness and adequate aisle space in each location.
- Conduct and record routine inspections of all hazardous waste satellite accumulation areas located at both campuses and address issues or non-compliance with the customer while providing excellent customer service.
- Communicate all violations, near-misses, or non-compliance of University Operating Policies and Procedures, Chemical Hygiene Plan, and/or state and federal regulations in a timely manner to management. The communication should include a description of the problem, adequate supporting documentation, and photographic evidence (when requested).

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with major coursework in chemistry, environmental health, public health, or related field. Certified Hazardous Material Manager 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
- Two years of experience in Hazardous Waste Management or a related field.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from high school with four years of work experience or an associate degree in a STEM field. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and perform basic math. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.
