Job Description

The Safety Operations Specialist assists in supporting the daily operations within their division, specifically focusing on ensuring a safe, high-quality experience for patients, team members and visitors. This position involves collaborating with various departments to uphold The Christ Hospital Health Network's (TCHHN) hospital safety standards, enhance patient and employee experience, and assist in the execution of quality improvement initiatives. All job duties are to be performed in a manner that demonstrates commitment to the Mission and Core Values of The Christ Hospital Health Network.

Responsibilities

Clinical Nursing Practice:

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in the nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient responses to health care challenges. Uses advanced education/skills as a liaison between staff and providers to improve patient outcomes.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and/or policies and procedures for the specialty population and/or nursing care.
  • Instills value for professional nursing practice and develops policies and procedures using: (1) Clinical Practice Guidelines, (2) evidenced based practices, (3) guidelines from national professional nursing organizations, and/or (4) nursing standards of care (as available).
  • Applies teaching/ learning principles and skills to patients, families, and staff to improve patient outcomes.
  • Acts as a patient and family advocate by clearly articulating patient's needs, concerns, perspective to physician and other care providers.


Operational Support:

  • Assist in managing day-to-day business operations.
  • Ensures effective communication and flow of information to all appropriate care providers and stakeholders.
  • Utilizes technology to document, evaluate, and manage process and patient outcomes.
  • Utilizes information technologies to meet organizational strategy needs and provide evidence-based knowledge at the point of care to improve outcomes.
  • Coordinate between departments to ensure timely execution of operational strategies, tasks and deadlines. • Distribute trended data to leaders and other key stake holders.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (CMS, TJC, ODH, OSHA etc)


Process Optimization:

  • Utilizes performance enhancing tools as part of process improvements, problem analysis, and measurement to lead or collaborate in projects
  • Responds to special requests and design actionable data reports and for various internal audiences that quickly and effectively directs further improvement efforts and patient care
  • Collect, measure, and analyze data and reports performance over time. Improve and redesign processes based on the evaluation and reassess continuously.
  • Participates in organization wide and department specific performance improvement activities for assigned areas of responsibility. The projects and level of participation will vary based the organizational strategy and needs.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to write or revise applicable organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.


Education:

  • Conducts formal or informal learning to patients, staff members and/or providers.
  • Creates or coordinates the development of educational materials.
  • Collaborates with appropriate leaders throughout the organization to assess and meet identified needs of staff and patient population as needed.
  • Supports the clinical and professional development of nursing colleagues through mentoring and role modeling.


Qualifications

EDUCATION: BSN required, Master's preferred

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years in clinical nursing practice.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: The ideal Safety Operations Specialist candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective collaborative relationships; is able to seek creative solutions and work with others to collaboratively set goals and priorities and is skilled in leading, training, and facilitating cross-disciplinary teams that are working on sensitive, confidential matters. Strong ability to track data, analyze and interpret numbers, and make recommendations based on data synthesis in a clear and logical representation to management and peers. Knowledge of and ability to use computers, including word processing, spread sheets, graphics, and database management. Ability to work well with online data systems, including the ability to understand key functions to optimize use of the system as well as educate others on use of the system.

Registered Nurse License for State of Ohio
