Position Description:
 
We are looking for a Safety Professional to support our Safety Director in our Taylor office. The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related scientific field, along with a minimum of seven years of relevant safety experience. The candidate must also be self-motivated, work well with others, and have strong knowledge of safety regulations to support safety programs, conduct audits and training, and provide guidance on compliance.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Help develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety programs for all of Wade Trim’s service areas which include but are not limited to: surveying, electrical utility engineering and inspection, civil engineering and inspection, landscape architecture design and inspection, field construction inspections, and pipeline design and inspection.
  • Participate in conducting regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to support a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement in safety.
  • Assist in advising management and staff on regulatory compliance, best practices, and hazard mitigation strategies.
  • Support the delivery of safety and health training to employees on-line and in-person at various office and field locations.
  • Aid in preparing and maintaining detailed safety plans, documentation, newsletters, reports, records, and other safety communications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help ensure alignment with company safety goals, industry standards, and client-specific safety requirements and expectations.
  • Work with clients to discuss and report our actions to mitigate safety risks on our projects.
  • Travel to company offices and job sites (30-50% of the time) to provide hands-on safety support and guidance as needed including office safety reviews.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently, manage tasks with minimal supervision, and take initiative in addressing safety concerns.
  • Report directly to the Safety Director.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related scientific field.
  • Professional certification: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or the ability to obtain one of these within one year of starting.
  • Safety training qualifications such as OSHA Outreach Trainer and/or First Aid/CPR.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in safety which includes field experience, preferably in construction, engineering, power utilities, heavy industrial environments, and/or natural gas pipeline operations.

Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present to and train diverse audiences.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in diverse outdoor environments, including construction sites and remote field locations.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and walking long distances—up to one mile—across varying terrain.
  • Comfortable climbing ladders, working at heights and in confined spaces, wearing respirators, protected-toe boots, and other required personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as working in both hot and cold weather conditions as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience leading safety initiatives in multi-site organizations.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with safety management systems (SMS) and incident reporting platforms.
  • Knowledge of federal and state safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, PHMSA, FRA, etc.).
  • Familiarity with drug and alcohol testing programs and procedures including DOT/PHMSA roles.
  • Familiarity with safety pre-qualification platforms such as ISNetworld, Avetta, VeroDMS, Contractor Compliance, etc.
  • Familiarity with Fleet Safety (non-FMCSA) including reviewing driver license records.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis and reporting related to safety metrics.
  • Ability to perform ergonomic assessments.
