Safety & Quality Coordinator

The Durham Manufacturing Company | Full-Time | Manufacturing Environment

Are you passionate about workplace safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment? Durham Manufacturing is seeking a motivated and hands-on Safety & Quality Coordinator to support and lead safety initiatives, OSHA compliance efforts, quality systems coordination, employee training, and manufacturing process improvements throughout our operations.

This position reports directly to the President of the company and plays a key role in supporting organizational safety, quality, compliance, and operational improvement initiatives across the facility. The Safety & Quality Coordinator will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Production teams to help ensure a safe, compliant, organized, and high-performing workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

Workplace Safety & OSHA Compliance

  • Lead and support workplace safety initiatives throughout the facility to help maintain a safe and compliant work environment
  • Assist in administering and maintaining OSHA and CONN-OSHA compliance programs
  • Support safety programs including:
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Hazard Communication
  • Forklift Safety
  • Emergency Action Procedures
  • Machine Safety and Guarding
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, production floor audits, and safety walkthroughs throughout manufacturing operations
  • Identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and compliance concerns while working with leadership teams on corrective actions
  • Assist with maintaining safety records, OSHA logs, incident reports, and compliance documentation
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and support safety engagement initiatives across departments
  • Promote a proactive safety-first culture through employee coaching, communication, and floor presence

Quality Systems & Manufacturing Support

  • Coordinate and support manufacturing quality procedures and operational quality standards
  • Assist with inspection processes, product verification activities, and documentation control
  • Monitor trends related to defects, scrap, rework, process issues, and customer complaints
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation related to product quality concerns
  • Assist in maintaining standardized work instructions, inspection procedures, and manufacturing compliance processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, quality improvements, and workplace organization
  • Participate in 7S and visual workplace initiatives to improve organization and operational discipline across production areas

Audits, Investigations & Corrective Actions

  • Conduct routine safety and quality audits throughout the facility
  • Lead or assist with investigations involving:
  • Workplace injuries
  • Near misses
  • Safety violations
  • Product defects
  • Customer complaints
  • Internal non-conformances
  • Assist with identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Track corrective actions and follow-up activities through completion

Employee Training & Development

  • Coordinate and deliver employee safety and quality training programs including:
  • New hire orientation
  • OSHA and PPE requirements
  • Forklift safety
  • Hazard communication
  • Manufacturing process compliance
  • Quality procedures and workplace expectations
  • Maintain training records, certifications, and compliance documentation
  • Support supervisors and leadership teams in reinforcing safe work practices and quality expectations on the manufacturing floor

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate safety and quality records, audit documentation, inspection reports, and corrective action tracking
  • Assist with preparing reports and KPI metrics related to safety, quality, and operational performance
  • Support customer audits, compliance reviews, and supplier quality communications as needed

Qualifications

  • BS Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Quality Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification required.
  • OSHA 501 Authorized Trainer certification strongly preferred.
  • Quality certifications such as: Certified Quality Technician (CQT), Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), ISO Internal Auditor are preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing safety, quality coordination, or industrial compliance roles.
  • Experience supporting OSHA compliance and manufacturing quality systems.
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations, and corrective action management.
  • Strong knowledge of: OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards, Manufacturing quality systems, Root cause analysis methodologies, Corrective and preventive action (CAPA), Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles, 7S and visual workplace systems.
  • Understanding of ISO quality standards preferred.
  • Strong capabilities in MS office suite
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Effective communication and training abilities.
  • Ability to influence operational teams and drive accountability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
