    Job Description

    Job Duties

    • Works to minimize the number of accidents and injuries
    • Eliminates hazardous conditions and reduces unsafe actions
    • Maintains compliance regulations and MSDS sheets if needed, issues hot work and confined space permits and constantly deals with regulatory issues
    • Maintains health, safety and security equipment
    • Manages and supervises training programs for employees and contractors
    • Acts as Contract Administrator for contract security personnel
    • Maintains close contact with assigned areas resolving safety sensitive issues
    • Develops technical skills and certification in the assigned relevant areas of and safety and/or DOT compliance

     

    May perform some or all of the following:

    • Coordinates emergency response teams for the assigned division or location
    • Coordinates annual safety and fire inspections
    • Develops and implements facility health, safety, and security policies and procedures
    • Provides consultation and recommendations for safety and security issues
    • Keeps required OSHA and/or DOT records on accidents
    • Provides general Safety support for the assigned division or location
    • Conducts safety training and assist management with training needs
    • Oversees and surveys compliance to Policy and Procedures relating to safety and develops and implements policies and procedures for compliance with OSHA/DOT and other relevant regulations
    • Assists field management with loss control efforts including hazard assessment and control, compliance assessments and establishment of behavioral safety systems
    • Provides safety coverage special projects

     

    Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

     

    Experience

    A minimum of five years of on-the-job experience with eight years of experience working in the refining industry.

     

    Education Level

    Bachelor's Degree required or the equivalent years of experience in lieu of the degree - four years in addition to the experience is required.

     

    PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

    Specialized training in transportation of hazardous materials and DOT compliance.

     

    Required Skills

    Working knowledge of occupational safety and industrial hygiene, and ability to apply this knowledge. Special training/Certifications in Industrial Safety, Hazard Assessment, Workers Compensation, etc. Satisfactory completion of a comprehensive medical physical examination. Understanding of Safety Practices basics and application of Safety

     

    Policies, and Procedures for field activities. Demonstrated ability to stand firm on doing the job Safe if challenged, but act in a diplomatic manner. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, advanced reading and wirting skills, ability to perfrom interemdiate mathatical calcualtions.

     

    Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

    May direct or lead the work of others from time-to-time.

     

    Work Conditions

    Office and field based and with up to 30% travel by land or air required. Petroleum refinery, and out-of-doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions. In some locations, must be available for weekend and after hour call-outs.
