Job Description:
POSITION TITLE: School Security Advocate
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in criminal justice, public safety, or related field preferred
- Prior experience in school security, public safety, law enforcement support, military, or a related field preferred
- Experience working with adolescents in a school setting strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in stressful situations
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, administration, and community partners
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Ability to participate in ongoing safety and security training
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day
- Ability to move quickly in response to emergencies
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL:
The School Security Advocate supports the school administration and staff in maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment at Bethel High School. This position serves as a visible presence during the school day, helping to deter unsafe behavior, monitor building access, and respond to safety concerns while building positive relationships with students and staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a visible and active security presence throughout the school building and grounds during working hours.
- Monitor and control access to the building, ensuring all visitors follow district protocols, including sign-in procedures
- Conduct routine and unscheduled patrols of hallways, entrances, restrooms, parking areas, and exterior grounds
- Monitor student behavior and assist administrators with maintaining a safe and respectful school environment
- Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, or safety concerns and assist with de-escalation when appropriate, following district practices and protocols.
- Assist with arrival, dismissal, and other high-traffic periods to ensure safe and orderly movement
- Monitor parking areas and report any suspicious or unauthorized activity
- Identify and report safety hazards, security concerns, or maintenance issues to administration
- Assist staff in locating students who are unaccounted for or in need of support
- Support emergency response protocols, including participation in drills and real-time incidents as directed by administration
- Assist the school nurse or staff during medical situations in accordance with training
- Monitor security systems, including; cameras, card access and burglar systems and communication devices, as assigned
- Build positive, professional relationships with students, staff, and visitors while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, or Building Administrator
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined in accordance with district guidelines
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal or his/her designee.
