POSITION: School Security Officer (Unarmed)

START DATE: August 27, 2026

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am -3:00 pm, Newtown High School

(With the ability to provide coverage for shifts with short notice and work over-time evenings, weekends, and holidays from time to time)

SALARY RANGE: In accordance with the School Security Officers Contract $24.21/hour with an excellent benefits package

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • State of CT Guard Card and a valid driver's license
  • Prior law enforcement or security experience preferred
  • Computer proficiency
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to professionally interact with students, parents and staff
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude
  • Good physical condition to maintain an active presence in a school environment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide security for the building and grounds of the Newtown Public Schools
  • Monitor campus parking lots and direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic
  • Ensure the physical safety and security of the facility by enforcing district policies and procedures
  • Process visitors, provide walking patrol, and monitor video surveillance covering hallways and other areas of the school and campus
  • Report and assist in the investigation of vandalism, theft, and other incidents occurring on school property
  • Document all security activity and generate incident reports as necessary
  • Provide security for school-sponsored and non-school sponsored events on campus
  • Proctor in-school suspension (ISS) and detention rooms
  • Consult and communicate with building administration on a continuing basis
  • Carry out all facets of the job description consistently and enthusiastically
