Seeking a Safety Specialist for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Columbia, SC.

This position offers full benefits including PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision,  401k with a company match, and annual performance based bonus!  

Salary is between $70K - $90K per year (based on experience)

The Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing and supporting company-wide safety initiatives, leading frontline safety programs, and promoting a zero-harm culture. This role ensures compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations, identifies and mitigates workplace risks, and supports continuous improvement in safety performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate safety programs in compliance with OSHA/MSHA standards and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate and deliver employee safety training; maintain training records and development paths.
  • Conduct site inspections, hazard assessments, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Evaluate work practices, equipment, and behaviors to identify and reduce safety risks.
  • Assist with incident investigations and provide guidance to project leaders on safety concerns.
  • Monitor field activities, identify high-risk trends, and proactively address safety issues.
  • Assess PPE needs and manage inventory.
  • Conduct health sampling and recommend necessary controls.
  • Support development of safety policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide onboarding and safety integration for new employees.
  • Serve as backup to the Safety Manager as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of OSHA/MSHA regulations, workplace safety practices, and high-risk work environments.
  • Strong communication, training, public speaking, and team-building skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency with modern technology and documentation tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with fewer than three moving violations in the last three years.
  • Ability to pass drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Working Conditions
Role requires work in physically demanding outdoor environments, including exposure to extreme weather and potential hazards. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team while managing deadlines and maintaining safe work practices.
