Job Title: Safety Specialist
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Safety Specialist to manage and enhance our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This role involves developing and maintaining EHS policies in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and GMP standards, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures aligned with OSHA, EPA, and GMP requirements.
- Monitor compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and internal standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety culture and reduce incidents.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safety audits across laboratories and manufacturing areas.
- Identify hazards (chemical, biological, ergonomic, process) and implement mitigation strategies.
- Lead or support Management of Change (MOC) activities to assess EHS impact of process or equipment changes.
- Lead incident investigations (near-misses, injuries, environmental events) to determine root causes.
- Develop and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to closure.
- Maintain accurate records and report safety metrics to leadership.
- Oversee hazardous waste management, including storage, labeling, and disposal per regulatory standards.
- Manage environmental permits, reporting (air, water, waste), and regulatory submissions.
- Ensure compliance with chemical inventory systems and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Design and deliver EHS training programs (e.g., Hazard Communication, PPE, emergency response).
- Conduct new hire onboarding and recurring compliance training.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement initiatives and safety committees.
- Perform internal audits and participate in external regulatory inspections.
- Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, local authorities).
- Maintain inspection readiness for GMP and EHS compliance audits.
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements impacting safety and contamination control.
- Support cleanroom safety, environmental monitoring, and contamination prevention efforts.
- Partner with Quality and Validation teams on safety considerations in regulated environments.
Essential Skills
- Experience with GMP, EHS, and safety within a regulated manufacturing environment, ideally within the pharmaceutical sector.
- Proficient in conducting safety investigations and implementing safety measures on the manufacturing floor and cleanroom areas.
- Strong knowledge of chemical safety, GMP safety training, and issue investigation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with environmental compliance in manufacturing areas, such as cleanrooms or cold storage.
- Background in pharmaceutical manufacturing is preferred.
Work Environment
This position is on-site, five days a week, Monday through Friday, in Wilson, NC. The role requires weekend work as needed until the workload subsides. It is a physically demanding position, heavily involved in the lab and on the manufacturing floor, rather than being a desk job.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
