    Description

    Sales Consultant – HVAC/Mechanical

Chicago, IL | HVAC / Mechanical Systems / Manufacturers' Representative | Monday – Friday | Day Shift

    Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000

    Employment: Full-Time / Direct Hire

    About the Opportunity

A well-established, 100% employee-owned manufacturers' representative in the Chicago market is adding a Sales Consultant to its HVAC and mechanical solutions team. The company partners with industry-leading manufacturers across HVAC equipment, indoor air quality, and noise control — delivering technical solutions to engineers, mechanical contractors, and building owners. This is a high-autonomy territory role with a direct path to strong earnings and meaningful long-term ownership through an active ESOP.

    What You'll Do

    • Own and execute a documented territory sales plan targeting key market segments including commercial construction, mechanical contracting, and specification-driven project work
    • Prospect new business opportunities, build and maintain long-term relationships with engineers, contractors, and key account decision-makers
    • Read and interpret architectural and mechanical drawings, specifications, and project bid documents to develop accurate, competitive proposals
    • Coordinate with manufacturer partners on scopes, pricing, and technical applications to compile and submit bids to contractors
    • Apply a consultative, process-driven sales methodology (Sandler) to identify customer needs, present value-driven solutions, and close business
    • Manage the full bid-to-close cycle including quote follow-up, objection handling, negotiation, and purchase order verification
    • Support accurate job turnover to inside sales and project management, including sales order entry, electronic job file setup, and submittal coordination
    • Maintain current knowledge of represented product lines, technical applications, and competitive landscape within target markets
    • Track pipeline activity, sales efforts, and forecasts using CRM tools; participate in industry events and associations to build market presence
    • Travel within the territory approximately 15–20% of the time

    What You'll Need

    • Minimum 3 years of sales, business development, or technical sales experience in HVAC, mechanical equipment, building systems, or a related construction industry vertical
    • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents
    • Demonstrated experience in consultative or process-driven selling with a track record of prospecting, managing accounts, and closing business
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present technical solutions, develop proposals, and negotiate effectively
    • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and industry prospecting tools (e.g., Builders Exchange, Insight) preferred
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Sandler Sales training or experience with a structured sales methodology is a plus
    • Familiarity with HVAC/mechanical product applications and manufacturers' representative model preferred

    Why This Role

This is a rare opportunity to join a 100% employee-owned organization that invests directly in the people who drive its success — with employer-paid healthcare, a biannual bonus structure, and an ESOP that builds real long-term wealth. For a technical sales professional who wants ownership, autonomy, and a market-leading product portfolio to sell, this role delivers.
