Sales Manager (Player-Coach) — B2B / Truck & Hauling Equipment

Location: On-site, Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia (Falling Waters / Martinsburg area) ·

Type: Full-time, On-site

About the Opportunity

Our client is an established, profitable U.S. manufacturer of truck-bed equipment and hauling rack systems — an innovative, American-made product that mounts directly to a truck bed so customers can load and transport equipment (zero-turn mowers, ATVs, snow equipment, and more) without a separate work trailer.

The company has grown almost entirely through word of mouth, organic online traffic, and a single annual trade show. Manufacturing, powder coating, warehousing, and shipping are already in place — the missing piece is a dedicated sales function to drive consistent, profitable growth. This is a newly created, ground-floor role with direct access to ownership and a clear path to build and lead a team.

About the Role

The Sales Manager is an on-site player-coach role that will own and build the entire sales function from the ground up. In the beginning, this person is the salesperson — answering phones and emails, handling customer relations, and closing orders. Over time, they will design a repeatable sales process, drive outbound B2B prospecting, expand the dealer and distributor network, implement and own a CRM, represent the company at trade shows, and eventually hire and lead a sales team.

Ownership is stretched across multiple businesses and is looking for a self-motivated leader who can take the reins, operate autonomously after ramp-up, and turn an organically grown product line into a scaling sales department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a repeatable sales strategy and process where little exists today.
  • Personally handle inbound sales (phone, email, website) and close orders, especially during ramp-up.
  • Build and run outbound B2B prospecting to win new business beyond organic inbound leads.
  • Identify, pursue, and land larger high-volume accounts and dealer/distributor partnerships.
  • Implement and own a CRM to track leads, manage follow-up, and convert buyers into repeat customers and referrals.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing customers and the current dealer network.
  • Collaborate with website and marketing teams to align digital campaigns, SEO, and social content with sales goals.
  • Track and report on sales performance, pipeline, and forecasts.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and occasional key client visits.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 3+ years of total sales experience (a strong, hungry candidate with a bit less will still be considered).
  • Track record of driving sales results and building or improving a sales process.
  • Experience with outbound B2B prospecting and managing customer relationships — not just inbound order-taking.
  • Self-motivated and autonomous; able to build structure and drive results without day-to-day direction after ramp-up.
  • Trustworthy, high-integrity, and authentic — able to connect with tradespeople and business owners.
  • Tech-savvy: comfortable with online invoicing and digital tools, and willing to implement and own a CRM.
  • Valid driver's license; able to travel occasionally for trade shows and key client visits.
  • Located within commuting distance of the Eastern Panhandle of WV, or willing to relocate (fully on-site).

Nice-to-Have

  • Industry background in lawn care, landscaping, power equipment, construction, or trailers.
  • Power equipment distribution or dealer-network experience.
  • Basic digital marketing / SEO awareness; QuickBooks familiarity (teachable).
  • Mechanical aptitude to quickly understand the product and the customer's equipment needs.

Who Thrives Here

  • High-energy but authentic, relatable to tradespeople and business owners.
  • A self-directed problem-solver who builds structure where none exists.
  • Genuinely passionate about the product and the customer base.

Less of a fit: "car-salesman" energy that leans on hype and pressure over authenticity; someone who needs constant direction rather than operating independently.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $80,000 – $100,000, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Bonus / Incentive: Goal-based quarterly bonus up to an additional $150,000 annually.
  • On-Target Earnings: ~$180K–$200K realistic first year, up to ~$250K.
  • Retirement: IRA retirement program.
  • Time Off: PTO — vacation, personal/sick days, and recognized holidays.
  • Growth: Clear path to build and lead a sales team as the business scales.

Interview Process

  • Stage 1: 30–60-minute recorded video screening interview with our recruiting team.
  • Stage 2: Interview with company ownership — preferred in person; a virtual first round with an in-person follow-up is acceptable for strong candidates.
