Job Summary

Salesforce Technical Release Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Salesforce Technical Release Manager to take a hands-on role in managing and governing the release lifecycle for Salesforce solutions across our Mortgages engineering teams.

This role is suited to a technically strong Salesforce professional who can work closely with Salesforce engineers and DevOps engineers to ensure changes are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with internal control and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to review changes entering release environments, understand deployment dependencies and merge conflicts, compare environments, and support the continuous improvement of the Salesforce CI/CD pipeline, including identifying manual steps that should be automated.

In addition to providing technical release leadership, this role will coordinate release planning, production readiness, stakeholder communications, and governance activity across technology, business, and BAU teams. The role therefore combines technical release engineering, Salesforce DevOps maturity, and release coordination in a regulated environment. Experience in Financial Services would be highly beneficial.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong background in Salesforce release management, release engineering, or technical leadership within a regulated environment, ideally Financial Services or banking.
  • Hands-on experience working in a Salesforce engineering environment that uses modern DevOps and source-driven delivery practices.
  • Strong practical experience with Salesforce DevOps tooling and practices, including SFDX, Git-based source control, branching strategies, and packaging approaches.
  • Good understanding of Salesforce packaging models and release management considerations in source-driven development environments.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce CI/CD pipelines, including validation, deployment, approvals, rollback planning, and post-release verification.
  • Ability to review changes entering release environments and understand dependencies, sequencing, merge conflicts, and release risks.
  • Experience comparing Salesforce environments, identifying configuration drift, missing dependencies, and release blockers.
  • Experience working closely with DevOps or platform engineering teams to improve release reliability and reduce manual interventions.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce environment strategy, including scratch orgs, sandboxes, integration environments, pre-production, and production.
  • Proven experience coordinating complex release schedules across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong experience improving, documenting, and monitoring release processes, controls, and metrics.
  • Ability to challenge constructively, manage stakeholders effectively, and call out risks, dependencies, and mitigations where required.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, including the ability to lead readiness meetings, go/no-go forums, and post-release reviews.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in Financial Services, banking, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce deployment and DevOps in particular GitHub Actions and AutoRABIT
  • Salesforce Administrator, Platform App Builder, or other relevant Salesforce certification.
  • Experience managing releases through Jira, with familiarity with ServiceNow and Confluence.
  • ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent experience in change and release management.
  • Experience coordinating production handovers and release governance in regulated Salesforce environments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Release Strategy, Governance & Planning
  • Own and maintain the Salesforce release calendar across delivery teams, ensuring alignment with broader bank-wide change governance and delivery milestones.
  • Lead release planning and readiness meetings, ensuring clear visibility of release scope, sequencing, dependencies, risks, and deployment readiness.
  • Partner with Change Management, engineering teams, test teams, and business stakeholders to ensure releases meet internal governance, control, and compliance obligations.
  • Coordinate the people, environments, approvals, and technical artefacts required to execute releases successfully.
  • Ensure all releases are planned with appropriate validation, rollback, support, and communication activities in place.
  1. Technical Release Engineering
  • Work closely with Salesforce engineers and DevOps engineers to review the content of releases entering controlled environments.
  • Assess the technical impact of incoming changes, including dependencies, sequencing, merge conflicts, and deployment risks.
  • Review release packages, metadata changes, and branching or merge activity to ensure technical readiness for deployment.
  • Compare Salesforce environments to identify drift, missing changes, inconsistencies, or blockers that could affect release quality or stability.
  • Support teams in understanding the impact of environment differences across development, integration, test, pre-production, and production stages.
  • Provide hands-on technical release leadership during release preparation, validation, and deployment activities.
  1. CI/CD & DevOps Improvement
  • Support and continuously improve the Salesforce CI/CD pipeline, working in close partnership with DevOps and engineering teams.
  • Identify pipeline pain points, bottlenecks, and manual interventions, and help drive opportunities for improved automation and standardisation.
  • Promote best practice use of SFDX, source control, packaging, and automated deployment approaches across the Salesforce delivery lifecycle.
  • Help embed robust release engineering practices into the day-to-day engineering process rather than treating release as a downstream coordination task.
  • Contribute to the evolution of release controls, technical checks, and environment management processes to improve deployment reliability and reduce risk.
  1. Environment & Deployment Management
  • Coordinate the end-to-end deployment process across Salesforce environments, including SIT, UAT, pre-production, and production.
  • Ensure environments are aligned and ready to support release activities, testing, and deployment validation.
  • Lead the planning and execution of sandbox refreshes, including coordination of data masking, seeding, access, and environment readiness activities in line with GDPR and internal data standards.
  • Maintain oversight of release content as it progresses across environments, ensuring deployment consistency and traceability.
  • Ensure deployment plans, validation steps, rollback procedures, and technical runbooks are complete and fit for purpose.
  1. Production Readiness, Handover & Release Coordination
  • Lead technical and operational readiness for production releases, ensuring all approvals, deployment artefacts, dependencies, and validations are complete before release execution or handover.
  • Act as the bridge between project delivery teams, DevOps, and BAU/platform management teams for production release activity.
  • Lead go/no-go meetings and production readiness reviews with delivery and operational stakeholders.
  • Support production deployment coordination and oversee adherence to agreed governance and release controls, while working within the operating model for production ownership.
  • Partner with BAU and platform support teams to ensure successful post-release verification, incident triage where required, and early life support.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement & Communications
  • Act as the central point of coordination for development teams, DevOps engineers, testers, business leads, platform owners, and BAU teams during releases.
  • Provide clear and timely updates on release scope, status, risks, dependencies, and deployment outcomes to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
  • Ensure communications for release milestones, production readiness, implementation windows, and post-release outcomes are well managed and understood by all relevant stakeholders.
  • Build strong working relationships across engineering, delivery, governance, and business teams to support effective release execution.
  1. Risk, Control & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure all releases comply with bank policy and control requirements, including change records, approvals, segregation of duties, rollback planning, access controls, and audit traceability.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing relevant evidence relating to deployments, approvals, controls, and release records.
  • Track release outcomes, recurring issues, and lessons learned to improve future release execution.
  • Monitor release metrics and conduct root cause analysis on release failures, delays, or recurring issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement in release governance, technical readiness, pipeline maturity, and stakeholder coordination.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring a blend of Salesforce technical depth, release and DevOps experience, and strong coordination skills. They will be comfortable operating in a hands-on release leadership role, able to engage with engineers on technical release concerns while also managing the planning, governance, communications, and stakeholder alignment needed to deliver releases successfully in a regulated environment.
