Job Description

About The Role:

The Principal Salesforce Tech Lead/Architect is a senior technology leader responsible for designing and guiding enterprise-scale Salesforce solutions that power critical business capabilities. This role operates at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and business strategy-shaping the technical direction for Salesforce within key products or domains, aligning solutions with organisational objectives, and ensuring that they are scalable, secure, and high-performing. The Principal Architect provides thought leadership, mentors technical teams, and partners closely with business and technology leaders to influence the roadmap for the Salesforce platform in their areas of responsibility.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to the definition of the Salesforce architecture strategy, reference architectures, and roadmaps for key business domains.
  • Help develop and maintain architectural standards, patterns, and guardrails for Salesforce implementations, and ensure their adoption within your area of responsibility.
  • Evaluate emerging Salesforce capabilities, AppExchange solutions, and industry trends, providing recommendations that inform platform and domain-level strategy.
  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for complex, multi-cloud Salesforce initiatives and large projects within your remit. • Facilitate design reviews, ensuring solutions meet scalability, security, performance, and maintainability requirements. • Participate in and support architecture governance processes, including technical design authorities and review boards, representing Salesforce in cross-platform discussions.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to one or more delivery teams, ensuring adherence to architecture, coding standards, and best practices. • Guide the design of data models, integrations, and customisations (Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows) in line with platform limits and architectural principles. • Partner with engineering leads to implement and improve CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices for Salesforce within your projects or domain.
  • Architect robust integration patterns between Salesforce and enterprise systems (e.g., ESB, APIs, middleware, data platforms) for your area of responsibility. • Define and advise on data strategies for Salesforce, including data modelling, master data management, data migration, and archival/retention for key solutions. • Collaborate with enterprise architects to ensure Salesforce solutions fit cohesively within the broader application and data landscape.
  • Design and implement security models, including role hierarchies, sharing rules, and field-level security, aligned with organisational standards. • Partner with InfoSec, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure solutions adhere to regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX as applicable). • Identify architectural risks within your programs and drive mitigation strategies in collaboration with delivery and platform teams.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to product owners, business stakeholders, and technology leaders, translating business strategies into Salesforce platform capabilities. • Collaborate with product management to help prioritise technical investments, debt remediation, and platform enhancements within your domain. • Work with vendor and partner teams on design and delivery, ensuring alignment with internal standards and architectural direction.

What You'll Bring

  • Multiple years of hands-on experience with Salesforce, including substantial experience in architect or technical lead roles.
  • Proven track record leading architecture or technical design for large-scale, multi-cloud Salesforce implementations in complex environments
  • Experience working in or closely with product engineering, platform, or enterprise architecture organisations.
  • Deep expertise across core Salesforce clouds (e.g., Sales, Service, Experience) and strong familiarity with others (e.g., Marketing/Account Engagement, CPQ, Field Service) as relevant to your domain.
  • Strong proficiency in Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows, and Salesforce configuration, with an emphasis on scalable, maintainable design
  • Solid understanding of integration patterns (REST/SOAP APIs, event-driven architectures, middleware tools) and data modelling
  • Experience implementing or working within DevOps/CI-CD practices for Salesforce (e.g., Git-based workflows, automated testing, deployment pipelines).
  • Strong grasp of Salesforce security, governance, and performance tuning best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and communicate high-level architectural visions and detailed technical designs for significant programs or domains.
  • Experience participating in architecture governance, running design reviews, and helping set technical standards.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery, making trade-offs that optimise for long-term value and short-term feasibility.
  • Strong influencing skills, capable of aligning diverse stakeholders around a common architectural direction within your area of responsibility.
