A Day in the Life

As a Part-Time Sample Control Technician / Courier based in Bakersfield, CA, you'll step into a position where every detail matters. You'll play a key role in handling samples, keeping records accurate, and maintaining a clean receiving area to support on-time results everyday. This position includes courier responsibilities supporting Bakersfield-area clients and the handling of environmental samples to our Orange laboratory for processing. The role requires independent work, long-distance driving, and management of time-sensitive sample deliveries. You'll collaborate with a strong team of committed professionals, contribute to meaningful scientific work, and grow your expertise in a dynamic, quality-driven environment. The ideal candidate is self-directed, comfortable working independently with limited supervision, and possesses strong time-management and decision-making skills. They will be well-trained to maintain safety conditions and will be passionate for doing work that makes things move forward.

The position title and compensation range for this role is, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location. $22.00 - $27.00 / hr, DOE.

Department: On-site Bakersfield Sample Receiving/Sample Control

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 6:00PM

To thrive in this role, you'll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

  • Operates company vehicles to transport environmental samples, supplies, and equipment between client locations, the Bakersfield facility while maintaining delivery schedules and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Safely transports samples over extended routes while working independently in the field and adhering to established delivery schedules and procedures
  • Receives environmental samples according to SOPs
  • Performs data entry and login of sample and test information into Laboratory Information System (LIMS)
  • Label sample containers and equipment, store them in appropriate locations and pack them for the daily deliveries to the Orange Lab
  • Responsible for sample bottle preparation and management, focused on daily pickups/deliveries to ensure smooth transport between sites
  • Maintains the company vehicle in optimal condition
  • Participates in focus teams to improve efficiency
  • Comply with Company's Quality Assurance Program
  • Comply with Company's Health and Safety Plan
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Expertise and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Lab experience is preferred
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to move and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the duration of shift while performing frequent routine tasks
  • Must have a driving record that meets the company's requirements for operating company vehicles.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and accuracy
  • Minimum of 2 years of safe driving experience with a demonstrated history of responsible vehicle operation.
  • Comfortable operating a vehicle for extended periods and traveling significant distances on a daily basis.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of general lab practices and lab safety
  • Able to multi-task and communicate effectively (both oral and written)
  • Able to work independently and make sound decisions
  • Well organized and have an attention to detail
  • Experience in courier, field service, logistics, or transportation-related roles.
  • Familiarity with chain-of-custody requirements and sample handling procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing tasks while working independently.
  • Experience driving long-distance routes in varying traffic and weather conditions
