Industry leading food manufacturer in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Sanitation Manager as their guardian of facility hygiene and food safety. This role is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and daily management of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs). Unlike night shift sanitation which focuses on deep-cleans, the Day Shift Manager focuses on operational sanitation (cleaning during production), environmental monitoring, audit preparedness, and cross-departmental coordination. You will lead a team to ensure the facility remains in a "constant state of audit readiness" while managing chemical safety and regulatory compliance.
Master Sanitation Management: Execute and track the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), ensuring all non-daily cleaning tasks (overhead pipes, silos, cooling towers) are completed on time.
Audit Leadership: Act as the subject matter expert during FDA, USDA, or third-party audits (SQF/BRC/AIB). Lead facility walkthroughs and manage the "Clean-In-Place" (CIP) validation records.
Chemical & Supply Oversight: Manage relationships with chemical suppliers, ensuring proper concentrations (titrations) are used and that all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are current and accessible.
Environmental Monitoring: Partner with QA to manage environmental swabbing programs (Listeria/Salmonella monitoring) and implement corrective actions for any "hot spots."
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Production and Maintenance Managers to schedule cleaning windows that minimize downtime while maximizing hygiene.
Team Training & Safety: Train staff on chemical handling, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures to ensure zero workplace injuries.
Experience: 5+ years in food manufacturing sanitation, with at least 2 years in a management or high-level supervisory role.
Technical Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of CIP (Clean-In-Place) and COP (Clean-Out-of-Place) systems, as well as dry vs. wet cleaning methodologies.
Regulatory Expertise: Deep familiarity with FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act), HACCP, and GMP requirements. PCQI certification is highly desirable.
Analytical Skills: Ability to read lab results (microbiology) and translate data into actionable cleaning improvements.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or a related field is preferred, though extensive industry experience may be substituted.
Leadership: Strong communication skills to manage both a direct sanitation crew and influence production staff who impact facility cleanliness.
