Sanitation Worker I (Full-time; Non-Exempt)

Job Summary:
The Sanitation Worker is responsible for maintenance and care of refuse truck, and operating and maintaining daily refuse routes. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Sanitation/Refuse Supervisor and does not have supervisory responsibilities.
This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Salary:
$17.63 - $22.04 per hour, based on Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and relevant experience. The City provides paid training to obtain required CDL.

Schedule:
- Monday Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.;
- Flexibility required for occasional Saturday hours
- Steady, year-round employment with no weather-related unpaid time off
Essential Functions:
- Perform basic operational maintenance and care for refuse vehicles including greasing, washing, and minor repairs
- Safely and efficiently drive and operate automated, semi-automated and rear load style refuse vehicles, and use other equipment such as common hand and power tools
- Accurately complete vehicle inspection and route information forms
- Perform basic computer data entry using work order and labor entry software operations
- Maintain written logs and records related to equipment performance and work assignments, providing accurate and useful information within a legible format and prescribed deadlines
- Complete work assignments in a timely and accurate manner
- Requisition needed supplies, parts, tools, and equipment used by the division, in conformance to department purchasing policy
- Provide professional, punctual and courteous service at all times to citizens of the City of Owasso
- Show support and respect for the organization, its policies and people, to supervisors, co-workers, customers, venders, and the public
- Demonstrate ability to work as a team with other members of the crew/division, willingly providing assistance as needed
- Maintain communication with higher authorities as to work progress, operations problems, need for equipment and/or materials, delay in completion schedule and related items, providing accurate and timely information
- Exercise good judgment and initiative in seeing work to be done and doing it
- Use equipment and supplies in a safe and economical manner, reporting needs for repair and/or replacement to appropriate individual in a timely manner
- Demonstrate an attitude of cooperation, open-mindedness and flexibility regarding resolution of disagreements or problems
- Perform other duties as assigned in a positive manner which supports the vision and strategic objectives of the division/department and the entire organization of the City of Owasso
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid OK driver license with a good driving record, with CDL Class "B" Commercial Certification or ability to obtain within 6 (six) months of employment
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds
Working Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work will be performed mostly outdoors in all types of weather conditions including extreme temperatures, hot and cold, wet and/or humid conditions. The work environment may also include exposure to drafts, noise, dust, grease, and traffic and may require use of personal protective equipment.
Tasks require operating assigned equipment and vehicles, entering/exiting refuse vehicle approximately 300 times per day, the ability to exert physical effort in heavy lifting/moving, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (up to 100 pounds), and typically involving some combination of walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, and mental and visual acuity.
