The Opportunity:
The SAP Solution Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and optimizing the enterprise SAP landscape to ensure alignment with business strategy, IT standards, and architectural principles. This role defines the SAP roadmap, ensures consistent solution quality, and partners closely with business stakeholders, functional teams, and the Application Managed Services (AMS) provider. While the AMS partner performs development, configuration, and day to day support, the SAP Solution Architect retains ownership of architecture, solution design, integration patterns, and technical governance to ensure stability, scalability, and long term sustainability of the SAP ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and governance of SAP technical solutions across the full S/4HANA and SAP ecosystem.

  • Define and maintain enterprise-level architecture standards, integration patterns, and development guidelines to be followed by the AMS provider.

  • Serve as the final design authority for SAP enhancements, new modules, integrations, and system extensions.

  • Validate AMS-proposed solutions to ensure alignment with architectural principles, security standards, and long term roadmap.

  • Roadmap & Strategic Planning

  • Develop and maintain the SAP technology roadmap in alignment with business strategies and enterprise architecture.

  • Evaluate industry trends, SAP innovations, and new capabilities (e.g., SAP BTP, Integration Suite, AI/ML) and recommend adoption strategies.

  • Partner with business and IT leadership to prioritize enhancements, modernization initiatives, and simplification opportunities.

  • AMS Collaboration & Delivery Oversight

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to the AMS provider responsible for development, configuration, and implementation activities.

  • Review and approve functional and technical designs (ABAP, UI5, APIs, integrations) delivered by AMS resources.

  • Establish governance processes (design reviews, code quality checks, architecture boards) to ensure solution quality and consistency.

  • Act as escalation point for complex issues requiring architectural insight or cross-platform coordination.

  • Landscape & Platform Management

  • Oversee end to end SAP landscape architecture, including on premise, cloud, and hybrid deployments.

  • Collaborate with BASIS teams and AMS platform resources on environment strategy, performance, monitoring, patching, and upgrades.

  • Advise on clean core strategies, extensibility frameworks, and long term maintainability.

  • Integration & Security

  • Design and govern integrations between SAP and external systems, ensuring modern, scalable, and secure patterns (e.g., APIs, event driven architecture).

  • Support security, compliance, and audit initiatives, including role design, segregation of duties, and data protection standards.

  • Issue Resolution & Quality Assurance

  • Provide architectural insight to troubleshoot complex issues and lead root cause analysis for recurring or high severity problems.

  • Ensure operational and project deliverables from the AMS partner adhere to defined quality standards and performance expectations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 7+ years in SAP technical roles (BASIS, development, integration, or architecture).

  • Strong expertise in SAP architecture including S/4HANA, ABAP, and integration frameworks.

  • Understanding of SAP cloud deployment models.

  • Experience with major SAP transformation initiatives (S/4HANA migration, cloud modernization, system consolidations).

  • Excellent communication, vendor management, and stakeholder leadership skills.

Desired:

  • Experience working within or with an AMS/outsourced delivery model is highly preferred.
