The Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program (EMP) within the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an accomplished technical and management professional to join our dynamic team. This is a full-time Scholar in Residence position. The ideal candidate will possess the experience, professional achievements, and academic background necessary to teach both graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in engineering management. Experience with people or project management is expected.

This position is a non-tenure track, renewable contract appointment.

The EMP prepares engineers, applied scientists, and technical professionals for career advancement in business leadership and organizational and/or process management. Our focus is to help students at all career levels achieve their career objectives and succeed in technical and engineering fields. The Program offers a Masters of Engineering (M.E.) degree in Engineering Management, an M.E. degree in Engineering Management on Coursera, multiple graduate certificates, and two undergraduate minors in Engineering Management and Engineering Entrepreneurship. Courses are offered in person, online (asynchronous), remote (synchronous), and/or blended. A complete description of the Program can be found on the EMP website here.

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in three or more of the following areas: engineering management, leadership, engineering economics, finance, engineering communication, ethics, project management, aerospace program management and entrepreneurship.
  • Leadership and service to the department, university and profession
  • Serve on committees as assigned (program, college or university service committees)
  • The typical distribution of work for this role is 80% teaching (5 courses per academic year) and 20% leadership and service.

  • The anticipated start date for this position is in January 2027, however, a later start date may be negotiated.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a multi-year contract which may be renewable; specific term length will vary based on start date.
  • In-person teaching for some courses and ongoing service responsibilities to the Program require that the employee reside in Colorado. Colorado residence is required as a condition of employment and must be established by the start of the appointment.

  • Candidate must have earned a doctorate degree in engineering or a related field and ten years of related industry experience.

OR both of the following:

  • Candidate must have earned an MBA, or Masters in Engineering or a related field and fifteen years of industry experience in engineering, technical and/or business field(s).

  • At least one year of experience teaching at a graduate and/or undergraduate level capacity in engineering management, MBA and/or similar programs.
  • A documented record of successful teaching in a higher education or professional education setting.
  • Experience in providing education in a distance education environment.
  • A record of professional success both as a practicing technical professional and as a manager and leader in technology endeavors.
  • A record of creative or scholarly activity in engineering management or related areas, such as project management, product development, technology development, etc.
  • Executive-level management experience.
  • Industry experience in a technology-intensive field, such as aerospace, sustainability, manufacturing, energy, software, or product development.
