Sharon High School is seeking a highly qualified and collaborative School Adjustment Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of students in grades 9-12. The Adjustment Counselor works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, culturally responsive mental health support that promote student well being and access to learning.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Direct Student Support

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention and safety planning as needed
  • Support students in developing coping strategies, self-regulation skills, and social-emotional competencies
  • Deliver short-term, solution-focused counseling aligned with school-based practice

Case Management and Collaboration

  • Serve as a case manager for assigned students, including coordination of services and progress monitoring
  • Collaborate with general education and special education staff to support student needs within the classroom setting
  • Participate in and contribute to Student Support/MTSS teams, IEP teams, and 504 planning meetings
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines

Family and Community Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison between school, families, and outside providers/agencies to coordinate care and support student success
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers regarding student progress, concerns, and available resources
  • Facilitate referrals to community-based mental health and social service providers as appropriate

Crisis Response and School-Based Mental Health

  • Participate in building-based crisis response and threat assessment protocols
  • Support re-entry planning for students returning from hospitalization, extended absence, or alternative placements
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide prevention and intervention initiatives

School-Wide Contributions

  • Participate actively in the school-based mental health team
  • Collaborate with staff to promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate
  • Provide consultation and professional support to staff regarding student mental health and behavioral concerns
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to adolescent mental health, trauma-informed practices, and equity

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
  • Licensure required from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as a School Adjustment Counselor/School Social Worker
  • Demonstrated experience working with adolescents in a school or clinical setting
  • Knowledge of MTSS, special education law/regulations, and trauma-informed practices
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
