SCHOOL ADJUSTMENT COUNSELOR (SAC)
2026-2027 School Year
The SAC is responsible for supporting the social and emotional well-being of all students in order to
achieve academic success. The SAC is a key member of the Department of Student Services and the
schools of SBRSD who works directly with the Principal, Assistant Principal and faculty and staff to
ensure a safe and positive school climate. The SAC is a full-time position and reports directly to the
Director of Student Services.
Qualifications:
- Must have MA DESE certification as SAC and LicSW
- Three years experience working with youth or in social services preferred
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to triage/prioritize competing needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with students and families of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to de-escalate highly emotional students and adults
- A commitment to the belief that all children can succeed
- All benefits per Unit A Teachers' Contract
- Salary starts at $50,000 per year / per Unit A Contract
Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support for High Needs Students
- Provide individual and/or group counseling services.
- Coordinate psychological and social emotional services for special education students which
may include direct weekly service
- Experience in provision of treatment to school-age students and contact with parents/guardians along with understanding of IEP process.
- Provide early identification, intervention, advocacy and referral of high-risk students and their parents
- Coordinate communication and services with outside agencies and programs
- Provide support to students in acute crisis and assist in coordination of necessary outside services
- Ensure and safe and positive school climate
- Coordinate special programs and events for students related to character development and leadership
- Direct instruction to students using a coordinated K-5 social emotional curriculum
- Serve as a member of Grade Level, RTI and IEP/504 Teams.
- Assist faculty in understanding the complete range of services available to students to support their academic and social emotional success.
- Coordinate school-home communication for students with social and emotional concerns.
