About the Role

Blue Rose Consulting Group is seeking a qualified School-Based Child and Youth Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC) to provide non-medical counseling and support services to military-connected children and youth in a school setting at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

This role supports the Department of Defense Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Program and focuses on providing short-term, solution-focused support to children and youth navigating the unique challenges associated with military life. The MFLC will work within the school environment while collaborating with parents, guardians, educators, school administrators, and military leadership.

This position requires U.S. citizenship, an active and unrestricted independent clinical license, and successful completion of all required federal background investigations, suitability requirements, and installation access requirements.

This position follows the academic school calendar. Counselors work during the school year and are generally unpaid during summer break and other extended school closures. Opportunities for paid summer work may be available through approved camps, youth programs, or other Department of Defense assignments; however, summer employment is not guaranteed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide short-term, solution-focused, non-medical counseling to military-connected children and youth in a school setting.
• Deliver face-to-face counseling, resilience training, and health and wellness presentations.
• Consult with parents, guardians, school personnel, and installation leadership regarding behavioral, emotional, and developmental concerns affecting children and youth.
• Support youth programs, summer camps, and other approved assignments as available.
• Collaborate closely with military Points of Contact (POCs), school administrators, and educators to ensure program objectives are met.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate safety and intervention plans to support students and families.
• Maintain required documentation and comply with all Department of Defense and contract requirements.
• Maintain professional boundaries while supporting the unique needs of military-connected children and families.

Minimum Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen.
• Master's or doctoral degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
• Active, unrestricted, independent clinical license in any U.S. state or territory, such as LCSW, LICSW, LPC, LCPC, LMHC, LMFT, or Psychologist.
• Previous experience working in a school setting or other child and youth services setting.
• Understanding of military culture and experience working with military-connected children, families, or service members.
• Strong assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school personnel and military leadership.
• Ability to successfully complete all required federal background investigations, suitability requirements, and installation access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous School-Based Child and Youth MFLC experience.
• Prior military service or Department of Defense experience.
• Experience providing brief, solution-focused counseling to children and adolescents.
• Experience collaborating with school administrators, teachers, parents, and youth program staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

The ideal candidate is approachable, adaptable, and comfortable collaborating with educators, families, and military personnel while maintaining the appropriate scope and boundaries of the MFLC Program.
