Job Description

The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University. The TxSSC is tasked in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor's Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. The TxSSC serves as the clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout the state of Texas. As a result, Texas has become a national leader in school safety practices and is relied upon for assistance and guidance from jurisdictions throughout the nation.

The TxSSC is seeking candidates that are highly experienced in the field of school-based law enforcement and school safety and are interested in having a positive impact on the safety and security of Texas schools. This position will research, develop, and deliver training curriculum (to be delivered either in-person or on-line), provide technical assistance, job aids and other resources focused specifically on school-based law enforcement and school safety. Some of the job responsibilities include ensuring training and resources are current with the latest federal guidelines, Texas laws, and the Texas Governor's Homeland Security Strategic Plan. Additionally, this position will help develop and disseminate best practices and guidelines related to school-based law enforcement and safety in schools. The position will also develop training curriculum on a variety of school safety related topics as needed for educators, administrators, law enforcement, and parent organizations in coordination with regional training conducted by the TxSSC.

Job Duties

  • Support the implementation of Texas School Safety Center mission and vision.
  • Develop and deliver training curriculum materials on school-based law enforcement safety planning to be delivered through multiple modes of dissemination (e.g., on-site training/presentations, web, educational videos, manuals, etc.)
  • Research best practices in school-based law enforcement and safety planning to inform training curriculum
  • Review and evaluate planning material to ensure compliance with both state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures relative to school emergency management and operational continuity
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Additional Information to Applicants

  • Required to work hours other than 8:00 - 5:00 as necessary, including up to 10% on weekends.
  • Overnight travel - up to 50% of the time throughout the State of Texas.
  • Must have valid Texas Driver's License
  • If selected for an interview, you will be required to give an 8 - 10 minute presentation on a topic related to school-based law enforcement or school safety as well as a computer skills activity.
  • This position is based in San Marcos, TX. If selected for an interview, it will be conducted in person.
