JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: SCHOOL BUS DRIVER TRAINER - PART TIME

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Successful completion of a criminal history background check.

  2. Proof of US citizenship.

  3. Possess a valid CDL license with proper endorsements for driving a school bus.

  4. Proven safe driving records and practices.

  5. Minimum of three years' experience as a school bus driver.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

JOB GOAL:

To provide in-person training and support to district employees attempting to acquire a commercial

driving license (CDL).

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and supervisors.

  2. Plan for and train new bus drivers in all aspects of safe driving, including maintenance

pre-checks, vehicle operations of all types of vehicles, and safety requirements specific

to bus drivers with State Mandated Requirements in order to prepare the individuals for

the CDL road test.

  1. Provide assistance to new applicants in obtaining CDL, medical certificates, etc.

  2. Monitor driver trainees and assist in scheduling their road test.

  3. Evaluate driving skills and track new driver proficiency.

  4. Counsel and assist new bus drivers.

  5. Provide technical information and observations regarding the training performance of

new drivers

  1. Interpret, apply, and explain State and District rules and procedures.

  2. Prepare training records with schedules for new drivers; i.e., classroom, behind the

wheel training, daily walk around procedures.

  1. Prepare documentation for the purpose of providing new drivers with written support and

conveying vital information to them.

ABILITY:

  1. Operate a school bus exercising good judgement and extreme caution.

  2. Organize and execute a new Driving Training Program to produce effective and safe

drivers.

  1. Prepare new bus training curricula.

  2. Operate a two-way radio to communicate instructions to new bus drivers for routine and

emergency problems

  1. Interpret, apply, and explain policies and procedures.

  2. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

  3. Make common sense decisions in potentially critical situations.

  4. Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Driver trainer must be off contracted time in order to be considered for the position.

  2. Driver trainer will submit a time sheet for each training session.

COMPENSATION: $30.00/hr.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Provide a minimum of 20 hours of in-person training to new bus

drivers on a schedule determined by the Transportation Supervisor and to provide ongoing

support and on-the-road training and evaluation as requested by the Transportation Supervisor.
