School Bus Monitor/Attendant – Nassau County

Position Summary

Cathay Express Transportation is hiring School Bus Monitors/Attendants to assist drivers with the safe transportation and supervision of students attending nonpublic and special education programs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students while the vehicle is in service.
• Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle.
• Help students use seat belts, car seats, harnesses, wheelchair securements, and other safety equipment when trained and assigned.
• Sit near and provide direct assistance to an individually assigned student when required.
• Reinforce safety expectations and promptly report behavioral or safety concerns.
• Assist the driver and students during accidents, evacuations, or other emergencies.
• Help keep the passenger area clean and orderly.
• Maintain a professional appearance and courteous attitude with students, families, school personnel, and the public.
• Wear required identification and attend orientation, safety meetings, and refresher training.
• Follow all Cathay, district, Nassau BOCES, and New York State requirements.

Qualifications

• At least 21 years old.
• Able to speak, understand, and write English.
• Able to pass required fingerprinting, background checks, and district approval.
• Available for morning and afternoon split shifts.
• Able to complete required school bus safety and special-needs transportation training.
• Physically able to assist students with boarding, safety equipment, and emergency evacuation.
• Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
