POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: SCHOOL COUNSELOR (2)

2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP CAMPUS

This position will be filled in no less than ten (10) days after the date of this posting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid New Jersey Student Personnel Services certificate or New Jersey School Counselor

certificate.

  1. Successful teaching experience preferred.

  2. Master's degree from an accredited institution with a specialization in guidance and

counseling.

  1. Strong interpersonal and communications skills.

  2. Ability to work successfully with adolescents; must be child friendly.

  3. Successfully undergo a criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident

alien status.

  1. Meets the health qualifications required of all personnel.

  2. Meets the NJ residency requirements or willingness to relocate to NJ within 365 days of

employment.

  1. Must follow the guidelines of the Camden County Technical Schools' Nepotism Policy, File

Code: 0142.1.

Salary is based on education and experience according to the Board of Education of the Camden County Technical Schools and FESP Agreement Salary Guide - $58,656-$92,982.

POSITION GOALS: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor assigned per the CCTS' Organizational Chart

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction:

  1. Assist the instructional staff in student relations to ensure the success of all students.

  2. Develop individual student schedules in accordance with district guidelines.

  3. Coordinate with the principal's approval student career program placements, transfers and

reassignments.

  1. Cooperate and participate in in-service programs.

Curriculum:

  1. Take an active role in interpreting the district''s objectives to students, parents/legal guardians

and to the community.

  1. Participate in the placement of students in co-op, after school and summer school programs.

  2. Interpret student files to teachers, parents/legal guardians and students when appropriate.

  3. Initiate, develop and implement individual prescriptive curriculums under the supervision of

the director of student personnel services.

Evaluation:

  1. Administer tests and analyze test data as directed by the director of student personnel

services.

Finance:

  1. Provide director of student personnel services with input for the development of the budget for

the guidance department.

Administration:

  1. Collect, assemble, maintain, interpret, and arrange for the permanent storage of accurate

records regarding enrollments, attendance, transfers, drop-outs, grades, placement and

transcripts for all assigned students.

  1. Provide administrative personnel statistical information as needed.

  2. Cooperate the day-to-day operation of the guidance office.

  3. Assist in the admissions procedure in cooperation with the director of student personnel

services and the admissions officer.

  1. Assist in the district testing program as directed.

  2. Assist in the computerized progress and report card system.

  3. Maintain pupil personnel records for assigned.

  4. Conduct and arrange group tours, assemblies, industrial/other field trips and campus

visitations as needed.

  1. Process demitting students.

  2. Assist with teacher checkout.

  3. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board

policies.

Miscellaneous:

  1. Arrange for and conduct parental conferences as needed.

  2. Provide referral services for students to the appropriate community agencies.

  3. Provide individual and group counseling to students that will lead each student to increased

personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.

  1. Work with students on an individual basis in solution of personal problems related to home,

family, health and/or emotional adjustment.

  1. Review student referrals to the child study teams.

  2. Assist the assistant principal(s) in attendance monitoring and counseling students

concerning attendance and discipline.

  1. Maintain liaison with other divisions.

  2. Serve on committees as assigned.

  3. Assist with graduation as needed.

  4. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor per the CCTS' Organizational Chart/or

designee.
