    Whisconier Middle School is seeking an exceptional Full-Time School Counselor

    Whisconier Middle School is seeking a collaborative, student-centered School Counselor committed to supporting the academic, social-emotional, and career development of all students. The School Counselor works closely with students, families, staff, and community partners to implement a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes student success, fosters positive school climate, and addresses the developmental needs of adolescents.

    The successful candidate will help students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to become responsible, resilient, and productive members of their school and community while removing barriers that may impede learning and personal growth.

    Illustrative Examples of Work Performed

    A. School Counselor

    • Provides individual and small-group counseling to support students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development.
    • Assists students in developing decision-making, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and self-advocacy skills.
    • Supports students in establishing academic and personal goals while fostering resilience and responsible decision-making.
    • Assists students transitioning into middle school and supports students during other school transitions as needed.
    • Collaborates with families and staff to develop intervention plans that promote student success.
    • Monitors student progress through academic, attendance, behavioral, and social-emotional data.

    B. Program Coordinator

    • Collaborates with administrators, teachers, support staff, and related service providers to maximize student achievement and well-being.
    • Serves as a liaison between school and home, maintaining regular communication with families regarding student needs and available supports.
    • Develops and maintains partnerships with community agencies to support students and families.
    • Delivers classroom lessons aligned with the district's comprehensive school counseling curriculum, including topics such as social-emotional learning, academic success, career awareness, digital citizenship, and conflict resolution.
    • Assists in implementing and evaluating the goals and objectives of the district's comprehensive school counseling program.
    • Promotes a positive, inclusive, and equitable school climate for all students.
    • Utilizes school and community resources to support student achievement and wellness.

    C. Consultant

    • Consults with teachers, administrators, and families regarding student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional concerns.
    • Interprets assessment and student data to support educational planning and appropriate interventions.
    • Participates as a member of Planning and Placement Team (PPT), Section 504, Student Support, and other multidisciplinary teams.
    • Assists in developing and implementing interventions and accommodations to support student success.
    • Provides mediation and conflict resolution support for students, families, and staff.
    • Supports career exploration and academic planning appropriate to the middle school level.
    • Refers students and families to appropriate school-based and community resources when needed.
    • Maintains accurate records and complies with district policies and state and federal regulations pertaining to school counseling.
    • Effectively manages time, resources, and counseling services to meet student needs.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the building administration.

    Education, Experience, and Qualifications

    Qualified candidates must possess:

    • A valid Connecticut School Counselor Certificate (068).
    • A Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in School Counseling or a closely related field.
    • Knowledge of adolescent development, social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, restorative approaches, MTSS, and evidence-based school counseling practices.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
    • The ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
    • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and meeting the diverse needs of all learners.
    • Experience with data-informed decision making, consultation, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary educational setting is preferred.
