RESPONSIBILITIES

The High School Counselor (remote position) is for our high school student population of approximately 350 students located around the state. The counselor establishes graduation plans for each student and is well-versed in Indiana Graduation Pathways, the New Indiana Diploma, and has confidence in preparing students for post-secondary readiness to pursue enrollment, enlistment, or employment after high school. The counselor conducts one-on-one interviews with returning and transfer students to create schedules for the following school year. The counselor also provides consultation to teachers and school leadership regarding information, strategies, and approaches for maximizing the total development of students.

Supporting Data-Based Accountability Goals

  • Familiar with PowerSchool School Information System
  • Track and report data corresponding with credit attainment
  • Track and report data corresponding with projected graduation rates
  • Testing coordination and collaboration with fellow counterparts

Guiding Student College & Career Planning

  • Develop and update graduation and post-graduation plans for each student.
  • Support students assigned to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Assist with standardized testing, i.e. SAT, PSAT, ILEARN.
  • Analyze transcripts of transfer students to determine graduation progress and transfer credits.
  • Oversee graduation requirements and credits. Monitor and report deficiencies.
  • Assist students with Naviance tasks.

Providing Social and Emotional Supports for Students

  • Build trusting relationships with students.
  • Provide coping strategies and supports for students and staff.
  • Lead staff trainings on providing emotional support.
  • Plan & implement anti-bullying lessons for students before October 15th deadline.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors' Degree required; Masters Degree and licensure in School Counseling preferred
  • Comfortable with Google Suite and virtual platforms
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned by the School Leader
  • At least two years of experience working within the public school system as a qualified school counselor preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collectively in a team environment
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among students, staff, and families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • Solid understanding of current Indiana Graduation Pathways requirements
  • Develops and provides an effective comprehensive school counseling program to serve the needs of all students
  • Experience fostering the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to inform decision making
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students and families
  • Light travel during all testing windows
  • Work additional days beyond student and teacher contractual days
