Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, an independent Catholic college preparatory high school in the Holy Cross Tradition, is seeking a High School Counselor. Job Summary:

Rooted in Cathedral High Schools Holy Cross tradition, the School Counselor guides students through academic planning, graduation requirements, college and career preparation, and personal concerns that may affect their success at Cathedral and beyond. The counselor manages student schedules, monitors academic progress, assists with post-secondary planning, and provides personal guidance to students throughout their high school experience. Serving as a resource for parents, faculty, and school administration.

The School Counselor monitors student progress, helps students navigate academic and personal challenges that may affect school performance, and provides timely referrals to community resources when appropriate. This position requires a thorough understanding of Indiana graduation requirements, college admissions, and student scheduling, along with the ability to build trusted relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.

This is a full-time, 10-month + 10 Day, salaried-exempt position, not subject to overtime pay. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:00p.m., schedules will be determined by supervisors. A variable schedule may be necessary to meet the needs of the position and to support students and school activities.

2026-2027 Key dates & Reporting Timelines:

  • First Day of Reporting: July 28th, 2026
  • This start date includes five (5) required prep days prior to the All-Educator Retreat on August 4, 2026.
  • Last Day of Reporting: June 7th, 2027
  • This end date includes five (5) required wrap-up days following the final day of school.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required; Master's degree preferred ( School Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field).
  • Valid Indiana School Counselor License or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Experience with student information systems such as PowerSchool, Scoir, or similar college & career planning platforms.
  • Knowledge of Indiana Graduation Pathways, diploma requirements, and state academic standards.
  • Knowledge of College admissions, financial aid, scholarships, & NCAA eligibility requirements.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
  • Familiarity with Mac laptops/desktops, PowerSchool, and Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Gmail, Chrome) preferred, or a willingness to learn.

  • Advise students on course selection, graduation requirements, diploma pathways, and four-year academic planning.
  • Develop and manage student schedules, including schedule changes, enrollment updates, and transcript reviews.
  • Assist students and families with college searches, applications, scholarships, financial aid resources, and career exploration.
  • Interpret standardized test results and assist students with college entrance exams.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with school policy and applicable laws.
  • Monitor student academic progress, attendance, and graduation status, and meet with students as needed.
  • Assist students and families with the college search, application process, financial aid resources, scholarships, and career exploration.
  • Prepare & process transcripts, school reports, letters of recommendation, and other documentation related to scholarships, college admissions, and educational programs.
  • Refer students and families to outside agencies or community resources when additional services are appropriate.
  • Communicate with students, parents, faculty, and administrators regarding scheduling, academic progress, graduation requirements, and student concerns and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress using Cathedral's student information system.
  • Work with colleagues to support student achievement and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Participate in student support meetings, faculty meetings, department meetings, professional development, retreats, and other required school activities.
