SCHOOL COUNSELOR, MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Masters Degree in School Counseling or Michigan Teaching Certificate with the School Counselor (NT)

Endorsement

Preferred experience: master scheduling; PowerSchool; personal and crisis counseling; Section 504 plans;

attendance interventions; alternative pathways; guidance counseling; and middle/high school teaching.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Coordinate with school administration on Master Schedule and handle all master scheduling for the building.
  • Lead Testing Coordinator for the building and for the Virtual school.
  • Provide academic and personal guidance to students in middle and high school.
  • Communicate and collaborate with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain accurate case files and reports to track student progress
  • Assist in remediation by providing treatment plans or individual and/or group counseling sessions
  • Facilitate the resolution of behavioral and emotional issues in a constructive manner
  • Work effectively with community organizations and agencies
  • Ensure all students complete their EDP
  • Guide all learners through MTSS tiered supports and PBIS implementation
  • Provide new student orientation and attendance interventions as needed
  • Monitor and evaluate courses, credits, and requirements for student graduation progress
  • Manage scholarships for seniors and work with CCAC representative guiding FAFSA completion
  • Provide class presentations and guidance lessons in the classroom and in small groups as needed
  • Plan and organize activities to support students' transition to the middle/high school
  • Follow policies, procedures, and all other ethical practices and requirements while working with students
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Michigan graduation requirements, state assessments (MSTEP, SAT/PSAT, WIN, WIDA), Section

504 requirements, and student scheduling systems

  • Punctual, reliable, and predictable attendance is required
  • Exceptional at building relationships with students
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal
