SCHOOL COUNSELOR, MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Masters Degree in School Counseling or Michigan Teaching Certificate with the School Counselor (NT)
Endorsement
Preferred experience: master scheduling; PowerSchool; personal and crisis counseling; Section 504 plans;
attendance interventions; alternative pathways; guidance counseling; and middle/high school teaching.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- Coordinate with school administration on Master Schedule and handle all master scheduling for the building.
- Lead Testing Coordinator for the building and for the Virtual school.
- Provide academic and personal guidance to students in middle and high school.
- Communicate and collaborate with staff, parents, and community members.
- Maintain accurate case files and reports to track student progress
- Assist in remediation by providing treatment plans or individual and/or group counseling sessions
- Facilitate the resolution of behavioral and emotional issues in a constructive manner
- Work effectively with community organizations and agencies
- Ensure all students complete their EDP
- Guide all learners through MTSS tiered supports and PBIS implementation
- Provide new student orientation and attendance interventions as needed
- Monitor and evaluate courses, credits, and requirements for student graduation progress
- Manage scholarships for seniors and work with CCAC representative guiding FAFSA completion
- Provide class presentations and guidance lessons in the classroom and in small groups as needed
- Plan and organize activities to support students' transition to the middle/high school
- Follow policies, procedures, and all other ethical practices and requirements while working with students
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Michigan graduation requirements, state assessments (MSTEP, SAT/PSAT, WIN, WIDA), Section
504 requirements, and student scheduling systems
- Punctual, reliable, and predictable attendance is required
- Exceptional at building relationships with students
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal
