School Counselor

The School District of Rhinelander has a 1.0 FTE, School Counselor at the elementary level position open for the 2026-2027 school year.

JOB GOAL: To help students achieve self-fulfillment and mature into responsible adults. To provide a link between student, school, home and community to effectively meets the adaptive, social-emotional, behavioral, personal, family and community needs of students. This position serves as the building level expert in regard to SEL Curriculum (Second Steps), Responsive Classroom and Zones of Regulations

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. An earned master''s degree in school counseling.

2. A valid guidance and counseling or social work license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

3. Demonstrated ability to work with the educational staff, parents, and students; demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication; ability to organize and deliver a developmental guidance and counseling program built on knowledge of adolescent development, theories of counseling, group dynamics, educational testing and measurement, and career development.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• The Wisconsin Comprehensive School Counseling Model
• Social and Emotional (SEL) initiatives, Trauma Informed Care, Framework for Understanding Poverty, Mental Health First Aid; and Wisconsin''s Framework for Equitable Multi-Level Systems of Supports
• Collaborate with SDR staff to create approaches for every student to be successful, including; behavior management, coping strategies, and study skills
• Work with a team of professionals to use data that will assist in closing the achievement gap
• Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting
• Work collaboratively and complete Infinite Campus scheduling processes
• Determines and implements appropriate therapeutic strategies to effect changes in behavioral social interactions of students and their families
• Participates as a member of the Collaborative Team process. IEP (Individual Education Plan). PLP (Personal Learning Plan) EMLSS (Equitable Multi-Leveled Systems of Supports), and other school-based teams to develop interventions for promoting student academic success.
• Serves on both school-based and system-wide committees to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development for students
• Provides crisis intervention services as part of crisis team
• Conducts staff development and/or consultation on issues related to social, emotional, and environmental factors that impact learning
• Conducts classroom meetings, psycho-educational social skills groups, and classroom presentations on identified areas of concern for students
• Maintains required clinical records and submits appropriate documents for statistical reports with adherence to program standards in school social work
• Completes classroom observations
• Serves as liaison with community agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community leaders
• Locates and mobilizes community resources to support the educational programs
• Be able to facilitate and prepare lessons pertaining to Restorative Practices, Character Education, and Responsive Classroom
• Be able to lead professional development related to school counseling/social work services
• Be able to coordinate and collaborate with community organizations to establish mentorships, job, volunteering, and work
• Ability to facilitate SEL small group counseling
• Transition Elementary students and their families to Middle School
