Position Description

Position Title: School Nurse - 2022-2023 School Year

Department: Assigned Building

Reports To: Principal

Evaluated By: Principal

POSITION SUMMARY:

The School Nurse will provide health services to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide nursing care to students and staff.
  • Conduct required health screenings and notifies parents when further medical evaluation is indicated.
  • Maintain current cumulative medical records on all students.
  • Implement individual student health care plans and participate in IEP development when applicable.
  • Administer medication and nursing care procedures as prescribed by the student's physician.
  • Participate with district/school staff in developing and implementing the total school health program.
  • Provide health related information and resources to students, staff and parents as needed.
  • Actively participate in school safety plans.
  • Attend committee meetings and trainings regarding health service and health curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required
  • Pediatric and/or emergency medicine experience preferred
  • Clean background check
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as a computer, printer, fax machine, and telephone

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach and lift (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Physically assist students as needed
