SALARY DEPENDS ON EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Current, valid South Dakota Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License or South Dakota Registered Nurse (RN) License. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience: One to three years’ experience in the health care field, preferably in community health, school nursing, or pediatrics.
Physical Requirements: Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination. Frequent walking, keyboarding, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, stooping, and turning. Some lifting up to 35 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Other Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and problem solving skills. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and internet. Ability to provide physical assessment, CPR and first aid. Ability to keep information confidential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
- Consults with Nursing Supervisor to determine goals and services; complying with District policy and procedures.
- Serves as a team member in identifying, evaluating, and providing services for children.
- Develops and maintains a nursing care plan with goals and interventions unique to student needs.
- Serves as a liaison between school, parents, community health welfare agencies, and medical professionals.
- Focuses on prevention of illness, disability, and early detection and correction of health problems.
- Develops and maintains student health records.
- Coordinates building health screenings and physical exams.
- Facilitates referral of students and families to appropriate District and community services.
- Administers medications, treatments, and procedures as directed by physicians and District policy.
- Provides health education for students, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Depending on assignment, may transport students or ride with students to and from home or other learning environments; to include loading and unloading students.
- Maintains and assures confidentiality.
- Complies with FRPA guidelines.
- Inventories and requests equipment and supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
