Job Summary

Lorenzo ISD is seeking a caring, organized, and student-centered School Nurse to promote the health, safety, and well-being of all students. The School Nurse plays a vital role in supporting student success by providing direct nursing care, managing health services, promoting wellness, and collaborating with families, staff, and healthcare providers. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to creating a safe and healthy learning environment. Additional responsibilities may include teaching a Career and Technical Education (CTE) course within the districts Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services (DTS) pathway for secondary students, depending on qualifications and district needs.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care for students and staff, including assessment, first aid, medication administration, and emergency response.

Assess and care for students with acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic health conditions.

Develop and maintain Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and other required health documentation.

Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in accordance with state and federal laws.

Administer medications according to physician orders and district policies.

Conduct vision, hearing, spinal, and other required health screenings.

Monitor immunization compliance and communicate requirements to families.

Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care when necessary.

Collaborate with parents, physicians, counselors, and school staff regarding student health needs.

Monitor communicable diseases and implement appropriate prevention and reporting procedures.

Provide health education and wellness resources to students and staff.

Ensure compliance with Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Texas Education Agency (TEA), and district health regulations.

Maintain inventory of health office supplies and medical equipment.

Depending on qualifications and district needs, teach one or more Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses within the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services (DTS) program, helping prepare high school students for careers in healthcare through classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and industry-based experiences.

Assist with health-related training for district staff, including CPR, AED, medication administration, and emergency procedures as appropriate.

Participate in ARD, Section 504, and other student support meetings when health services are involved.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Qualifications

Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred; Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) may be considered.

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Experience in pediatric, community, public health, emergency, or school nursing preferred.

Knowledge of Texas school health regulations and nursing standards.

Strong assessment, clinical decision-making, and emergency response skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Proficiency with electronic health records and basic computer applications.

Eligibility to obtain appropriate Texas Career and Technical Education (CTE) credentials for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services instruction.

Interest in preparing students for careers in healthcare through classroom and hands-on learning experiences.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods.

Ability to respond quickly during medical emergencies.
