About the Role
The School Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive health services to students within a school-based setting. This role supports student health, promotes wellness, manages chronic conditions, and collaborates with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
Essential Functions
- Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, illness assessment, and emergency response
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies
- Develop and manage individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), emergency action plans (EAPs), and 504 plans as needed
- Monitor and support students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies)
- Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.) and maintain accurate health records
- Promote preventive care and health education for students, families, and staff
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and healthcare providers to support student health needs
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and school health regulations and policies
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard student health information
- Participate in school meetings, care coordination, and community health initiatives
Qualifications
Education:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Current CPR/BLS certification
Experience:
- Previous nursing experience required; pediatric, school, or community health experience preferred
- Experience working with diverse or underserved populations a plus
- Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in school-based or public health settings
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or other languages)
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems
