TITLE: School Nurse Substitute

QUALIFICATIONS: Current registration to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts CPR with AED certified by AHA or ARC

REPORTS TO: Director of School Health Services

EVALUATED BY: Director of School Health Services

$200 per diem as needed. Non-benefits eligible, at-will position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accepts varying location assignments to support health services throughout school district
• Assesses and evaluates students' health status
• Provides primary and emergency health care
• Administers medication in accordance with school policy and procedures
• Provides relevant teaching, counseling, and guidance to assist students and parents in assuming responsibility for appropriate health care
• Identifies students with special health care needs which affect learning
• Interprets student health needs to teachers and other school personnel
• Enters medical date into electronic health records on all students
• Assists screening programs for vision, hearing, growth and SBIRT, to include follow-up retests
• Confirms student eligibility for sports
• Assists in the prevention and control of communicable diseases
• Participates in the modification of the school program to meet the needs of children with disabilities and medical conditions
• Develops Individual Health Care Plans, Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plans, Asthma Health Care Plans, and 504 plans as needed
• May serve on Child Protection Team and acts as an advocate and consultant for children suspected of being abused or neglected
• Maintains continuing education requirements for recertification by BORN
