    Position Description

    The School of Applied Sciences and Arts within the College of Integrative Arts and Sciences on the Downtown Phoenix and Polytechnic campuses of Arizona State University invites applications to establish a pool for Applied Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies Faculty Associates for the 2026-2027 academic year. This includes disciplinary areas, such as history, English, communication, religious studies, and philosophy, as well as courses to support interdisciplinary studies, liberal studies, general studies, science, technology, and society (STS), and military and veterans' studies (MVS). The successful candidate(s) will teach undergraduate courses in either Applied Humanities or Interdisciplinary Studies programs; prepare class materials; evaluate student work; and hold office hours to assist students. Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load. Faculty Associates may teach at the Polytechnic campus, the Downtown campus, or online asynchronously, depending on the needs of the unit.

    The School of Applied Sciences and Arts in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University delivers applied sciences and liberal arts courses to students from all majors at the Polytechnic and Downtown Phoenix campuses. It has more than 170 full-time faculty who serve nearly 4,500 students majoring in career-focused, applied-learning programs, including undergraduate applied biology majors in pre-veterinary medicine, pre-dental, and sustainable horticulture; applied physics; applied quantitative science; interdisciplinary studies; science, technology, and society; history of science, technology and innovation; communication; and more.

    The School of Applied Sciences and Arts leads ASUs Writers Studio, which provides first-year composition courses to all ASU Online students. It also offers the nation's first degree in military and veterans studies led by ASU's Office for Veteran and Military Academic Engagement (OVMAE). The OVMAE is committed to the robust support of veteran, military-affiliated and dependent students. The school is also home to the Latinx Oral History Lab, which offers undergraduate research and storytelling opportunities.     ASUs School of Applied Sciences and Arts, part of the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, advances experiential and integrative learning, with a focus on applied sciences and mathematics, interdisciplinary humanities and social sciences.     Essential Functions:

    • Teach undergraduate courses in Applied Humanities or Interdisciplinary Studies using appropriate curricula and pedagogical approaches
    • Develop and prepare course materials, including syllabi, lectures, assignments, and assessments appropriate to course objectives
    • Evaluate student work through grading assignments, examinations, and projects in a timely manner consistent with university policies
    • Use Canvas learning management system to deliver course content and facilitate student learning in digital environments
    • Communicate effectively with students regarding course expectations, performance, and academic progress
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress in compliance with university requirements
