About this Position

The Department of Biology at Langston University invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Biology. We are seeking a dedicated and scientifically rigorous educator to teach undergraduate-level courses, specifically General Biology I & II, and potentially upper-division electives depending on departmental needs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and student success, possessing the ability to make complex biological concepts accessible to a diverse student body. This role involves both lecture instruction and laboratory supervision, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols and academic standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Instructional Excellence: • Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction for assigned courses (lecture and/or laboratory) aligned with the Department of Biology's curriculum and student learning outcomes. • Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to host course materials, grades, and communication. • Implement active learning strategies to foster critical thinking and scientific literacy.

For Laboratory Sections: • Supervise students ensuring strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols, proper equipment usage, and waste disposal guidelines.

Assessment & Student Support: • Design and administer assessments (exams, quizzes, lab reports) that accurately measure student mastery of course content. • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work (grading transparency). • Maintain regular office hours (in-person or virtual) to assist students with course material and academic questions.

Administrative & Compliance: • Submit syllabi, attendance records, and final grades strictly in accordance with university deadlines. • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance for financial aid compliance. • Participate in departmental orientation and mandatory compliance trainings as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, or a deeply related discipline from an accredited institution. OR A Master's degree in a different discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours specifically in Biology. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level, specifically with General Biology for majors and non-majors. Proficiency with Canvas LMS or similar platforms. Experience teaching laboratory sections and managing laboratory safety. Ability to teach specialized courses if needed (e.g., Anatomy, Zoology,).

• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific topics effectively in written and oral English. • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. • Demonstrated passion for teaching and student success • Strong oral and written communication skills • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D./Ed.D. In related field of study Previous teaching at a collegiate level
