School of Human Evolution and Social Change

The School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) (https://shesc.asu.edu), in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the Tempe campus at Arizona State University invites applications for the position of Faculty Associate. The School seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants to teach a variety of courses (online and immersion) on topics related in one or more of the following areas in the school, including:

• Global Health,
• Environmental Social Science,
• Evolutionary Anthropology,
• Archaeology,
• Bioarchaeology, and
• Sociocultural Anthropology

Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed‐term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed 0.40 FTE (1-2 courses per semester). Specific start date within the academic year will vary based on assigned courses.

For this position, we seek to attract a pool of qualified people who are available to teach in-person courses on ASU's campuses in Tempe, as well as a pool of faculty who are also able to teach online.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in assigned courses, either in-person and/or online, in alignment with the School's curriculum and mission. Responsibilities include:

• Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses in one or more areas within the School.
• Develop and deliver engaging course content through lectures, discussions, readings, and other instructional activities.
• Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments, in accordance with course objectives.
• Evaluate and grade student work using established rubrics and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.
• Maintain an active instructor presence, including holding office hours and responding to student inquiries in a timely manner.
• Utilize the Canvas learning management system to manage course content, communications, and grading.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff and adhere to university, college, and school policies and procedures related to instruction.
