Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Patrols District schools, offices, and other property; apprehends suspects; investigates crimes; and makes recommendations for the disposition of criminal and related matters involving the security of District facilities, personnel, students, or visitors.
SUPERVISION:
Receives general supervision from a School Police Sergeant or higher authority within the chain of command. May act in the absence of a School Police Sergeant as required.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Current employment as a fulltime sworn peace officer with a P.O.S.T.-certified California law enforcement agency. -OR- Prior employment within three years as a fulltime sworn peace officer with a P.O.S.T.-certified California law enforcement agency. -OR- Graduation from a California P.O.S.T.-approved basic training academy within three years prior to the closing date of the current School Police Officer recruitment bulletin. -OR- A valid waiver letter granted by California P.O.S.T. waiving the required completion of a California POST-certified Regular Basic Course. -AND- Have a U.S. high school diploma, GED certificate, or high school equivalency certificate, or a two-year, four-Year, or advanced degree from an accredited or approved college/university.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION: This is a non-exempt position, SBPOA Salary Range 46. Positions in this class work 12 hour rotating shifts on a 12-month basis. The probationary period for employees in this classification is 248 paid work days.

THE EXAMINATION:
Written Examination. WEIGHT: 100%
Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.
Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.
Candidates will be notified in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules.
This eligibility list will be active for a period of (1) year.

School Police Officers Differential compensation:
POST Intermediate Certification: 6% to base pay
POST Advanced Certification: 8% to base pay
Associate degree: 5% to base pay
Bachelor degree: 7% to base pay
Master degree: 9% increase to base pay
