POSITION OVERVIEW
We are currently seeking a reliable and proactive Porter to join our team at a private elementary school in New York City. As a School Porter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning and maintenance of the school facilities. Your responsibilities will include various tasks related to cleanliness, organization, and general upkeep, contributing to a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for our students, staff, and visitors. WHAT YOU WILL DO
Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting, to maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of classrooms, hallways, common areas, and other designated spaces. This includes ensuring proper waste disposal and recycling practices are followed.
Security: Ensure building security by monitoring access, greeting and checking in visitors, verifying staff and caregiver IDs, assisting with dismissal traffic, accepting deliveries, conducting end-of-shift walkthroughs, reporting facility issues, and supporting Operations and Facilities with administrative tasks during downtime. Monitor entrances, verify visitor credentials, and manage the sign-in registry. Conduct regular interior and exterior security patrols of school grounds.
Set-Up and Breakdown: Assist in setting up and arranging furniture, equipment, and materials for various events, meetings, and activities within the school premises. Afterward, ensure proper breakdown and storage of items.
Supplies Inventory: Monitor and maintain inventory levels of cleaning supplies, toiletries, paper products, and other consumables. Inform the supervisor in a timely manner to ensure an adequate supply for daily operations.
Safety Checks: Regularly inspect facilities, equipment, and play areas to identify and report any maintenance or safety issues, such as damaged furniture, faulty fixtures, or potential hazards. Collaborate with the maintenance team to address these concerns promptly.
Support Services: Assist with logistical tasks, including receiving and distributing deliveries, moving equipment or materials, and providing support for school events or activities as needed.
Grounds Maintenance: Keep the school's exterior areas clean and well-maintained, including sweeping walkways, removing litter, and reporting any landscaping or outdoor maintenance needs. (BPM)
Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with the facilities team, school staff, and administration to ensure effective communication and coordination of tasks. Report any incidents, damages, or maintenance requirements promptly.
Compliance and Safety: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols, including proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals, adherence to safety procedures, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Supervise, monitor, and visually inspect campus fire alarm systems (S-95). Lead or assist in scheduled fire drills and emergency evacuations (W-07).

Requirements
US work authorization (Required)
High School or Equivalent
Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and supplies
Ability to communicate effectively via email and/ or in person
Prior experience in custodial work, janitorial services, or a similar role is preferred
Flexibility to work during non-school hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, if required.
Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and carrying objects.
NYS Security Guard License (including 8-Hr and 16-Hr courses).
FDNY S-95 Certificate of Fitness (or obtained within first 30-60 days).
FDNY W-07 Certificate of Fitness (or obtained within first 30-60 days).
